Is it "bad" 2 drink sodas? I work out regularily, n it seems like i can eat anything without gaining any kind of fat (or at least visible fat). My goal right now is to lose a thin layer of fat covering my abs so they can become more visible, would drinking cokes contribute to making that fat more difficult to come off?

Yeah, if you want a good diet, then drop that crap... all of it. Leave it for your one weekly cheat meal. Read the stickies, they will seriously open a patch of light to the healthy side.

Just drop them like cold turkey for a month, or ween yourself off of them if you need to. I did that about a year ago and I actually find the taste of soda disgusting now for the most part. You might be surprised.

Same here. I still like taste, but have no desire for it, and whenever I do have it it makes me somewhat sick to my stomach.

A lot of people say diet sodas are okay, but personally, I would drop that too. I don't have any evidence to support this, but it seems drinking diet sodas hinder weight loss for me. I used to rarely drink any sort of sodas until I read diet was okay on this forum so I started buying diet occassionally and they seem to hurt my losses, although it may just be psychological.

you will die young. Each soda takes a second from your life expectancy

ive drunken 1200 sodas in my life time im 18 are u saying i will lose like 10 minutes from my life? OMG lol id rather die at 50 anyway who wants to live when their old!!!!

So what does this mean for the 9 years of smoking I had in my past? Or how about all the partying? I am lucky if I make it past 50. :)

I used to drink a ton of soda. I also used to weight 280. I started dieting and got down to about 240. Then I stopped drinking regular soda and started drinking diet. I lost another 30 pounds or so after that. Anyway, now I drink a couple of diet sodas a day. Probably not the best choice, but when I'm 191 with 9% body fat I'm not going to worry about drinking a diet soda or two.

Just be careful of the aspartame in diet sodas. I have a hard time believing that a chemically processed substance that is used in formaldehyde can be safe for the body.

coke=high fructose corn syrup, which= bad

"insulin spike"

and another point

who do you see drinking "diet" coke?

fat people
exactly my point

Yeah, but they make a version of Diet Coke with Splenda and that's what I usually get.

soda is shit. I stopped drinking it about 2 years ago and if I take a sip of coke or something, I feel it burn down my throat. If you don't drink soda for a month or two, you won't drink it anymore

I'm curious, what exactly is it that's in a can of soda that is bad enough to reduce your life expectancy? Can anyone support this with any science? Not being smart but I'd like to see where that comes from.

Aside from sugar which you won't find in diet drinks anyway, there's absolutely no science behind the statement that soda's are bad for you in moderation or not in moderation for that matter. You may get to much phosphorous from drinking too many but that would be rare. And before anyone hollars about aspartame please show me a referenced scientific study that says it's harmful. Not just some nut's opinion.

Aspartame is made from the essential amino acid phenylalanine. It's not used to make formaldehyde BTW although formaldehyde is a by-product but in such minute amounts as to be totally harmless.

Formaldehyde is produced by the catalytic oxidation of methanol BTW. The most commonly used catalysts are silver metal or a mixture of an iron oxide with molybdenum and vanadium. The idea that aspartame or any part of it is used to make formaldehyde is simply false. Where does this stuff come from??

If you're worried about the formaldehyde in aspartame than you should be worried about the cyanide in almonds and apples and stop eating them as well.

The point is there's not enough in either to harm anyone.
