Wanting to change things up a bit. I started to add drops sets into my training routine.

Would it be considered overtraning if I did a drop set on every exercise that I do for that body part?

Thanks for any suggestions or comments.

In my opinion no, you would be fine. As long as you get adequate rest by the next time you work that muscle group. Also, I wouldn't do drop sets every single week.

Why would you want to?

I don't see any benefit on doing dropsets for absolutely everything, not to mention you'd be bored as hell and it'd take a lot of effort stripping all the plates off all the time, or you'd seriously piss some people off by asking them to help all the time.

Some things work better on certain exercises than on others. If you want to change things around think about your program a little harder about your immediate goals and program it to suit. If you've been doing a lot of high rep work lately, do some lower reps, or implement some sort of periodization into your program.

Play about with exercise variations like doing Paused Bench, or Push Press instead of Military Press, or Deficit Deadlifts. Do you have any exercises or areas that need to be improved? I've just switched out a lot of chest work because i feel like working on my shoulders a bit more, and my rotator cuff is playing up so it'll helpfully avoid some problems (i hope).

If you want to put in some more of these intensity techniques like dropsets etc, don't just blanket everything with one technique, figure out what techniques work better on what exercises for you.

You've got dropsets, supersets, rest pause, 50% sets, super-high reps, negatives, forced reps, high volume, tempo....i'm sure theres a tonne more. Some will work better than others for you on certain exercises.

The main thing is to make sure you're progressing. If you're changing things up because of boredom, do a variety of different things. If you've hit a plateau, do the same thing but drop your training weights considerably and start building back up gradually every week.

Gaz,

Thanks for the suggestions. I have been ding high reps finishing 10-12 reps on last set for a while.

I will try the lower rep range 4-6 for a while and see how that goes.

As for warming up for the final working set, do you suggest start in the 12 rep range then working down to 10, 8, then 4-6 for final working set?

Lastly, I havge been taking about 1 min rests between sets. Now that I will be lowering the reps, what rest time do you suggest between sets?

Again thanks for the help.

I LOVE drop sets and do them more then i used to.I will do my usual 3-5 sets and will drop the last 2 sets.Or like last night i did 5 sets then drop sets till i ran out of 45 lbs plates on leq press.
