Ive been doing dumbbell presses for three months now, therefore dropping benchpress from my routine with the exception of CG bench presses here and there. Well, i just decided to bench a small set of 155lbs, which i did just a few months ago. Except i could barely get to the 6th rep . Maybe it was the fact i just finished two sets of db presses at 70lbs a hand, which i do for 8-10 reps. Is it just me or did i get weaker but excluding the bench press out of my routine?

Why would you post something so retarded?
You answered yourself. Instead of doing anything first.
Warm up well, and then go for it. Duh.

This most likely happens to us all. If we leave out a routine such as bench for sometime, it takes a week or two to get back into the groove. Try it again next week, but do the Flat bench first. You'll probably be close to where you were within 5-10 lbs

Ugh...yeah i thought so but i didnt want to admit it, its like losing all the progress made. O well, i guess ill switch back to bench for a few months and revert again. But i feel that Db presses work your pecs better and you dont need a spot and stuff.

If you don't bench how can you expect to be strong at bench? It is a trained lift.

You didn;t loose all your strength. What you have to remeber is that your body will recall movements paterns that make you more effecient at that lift. If you start benching again it will take a very short time to get back to what you did before and then probably surpass it.

I have not benched in months and months.

It sounds like a combination of fatigue and some level of detraining in the lift. Like P said, it is a learned lift, like most. However, the increased strength from DB pressing should carry over to your bench press once your body neurally adapts to the lift again. Also, start fresh with bench press next time.

lol, that is why my avi isn't a picture of my chest.

There is something to be said for including both as well depending on your goals. IMO, if you want a strong bench then you have to bench. There is nothing wrong with switching things up a bit, but I would recommend keeping flat bench and doing incline dumbells or splitting your flat sets up between heavy barbell 5 reps or less and 7-10 dumbell reps, three sets of each or so.

My bet is that you didn't get weaker, you just tired yourself out with your earlier sets of DB presses or lost your confidence. A little more moderation would be good, but if you were doing DB presses regularly with weights such as 70lbs I don't see how you wouldn't gotten weaker. Just my $.02
