Dumbell flys - standing or laying?

I was wondering; What is the difference between doing flys these different ways:

1. Standing
2. laying, feet on floor
3. laying, feet on bench

is it just preference or is there a good reason to do it a certain way?

Also, could someone tell me proper technique for standing? I believe it's elbows/knees slightly bent and lean forward a little. Is that right?

Preference also.

Hey Nick. Don't forget the crunch ball Dumb bell flys also as well. A few trainers and I have incorporated it into our clients work outs as well. Beyond beneficial? Doubtful. However, it gives me a better stretch and helps on my return (slightly) to the upward motion.

Then, I can drop the weights and throw in sets of abs! :thumb:

hold on, let me think....

*ponder*

It must have been a back exercise, yeah. It makes no sense that they'd be flys.

Im sorry, dumb question. I wasnt thinking.

It's the big old Rubber ball commonly used these days for abs! But, alot people are doing other exercises with the ball for chest etc.

If I find a picture of the good ol' ball, I will post it!

Oxygen and Muscle & Fitness usually show a lot of other exercises with the rubber ball! ;)

Standing up straight = lateral raises (side delts)
On a bench = chest (Flys)
Bent over = rear delts (and back to some extent)

Standing cable crossover can be considered as doing flyes standing, I think.

Kind of, but they are definately not called flys, just cross-overs.
