Hi,

I do about 6 different exercises with 10lb dumbells.

Question is a lot of sites I've read say to do 3 sets of 10-15 reps. Is there any benefit if want to do one or two sets of as many reps as I can, like 25-30 each?

Thank you,....marcb

These are fairly basic questions, Marc. Thankfully, they're answered in the stickies at the top of this forum.

I have the same question. I am working with only dumbells right now as far as weights are concerned and I was wondering what's the most efficient way if I am MAJORLY cutting?

A clean diet will primarily be a good goal.
I'm not crazy about high rep work. The highest I'll go is 10 reps.
As for training, I'd use 3x8-10 reps as the guideline. Build more muscle.

Thanks, yes my diet is the best it's ever been so I want to make sure I am amaximizing my efforts with a good workout as well. THanks for the heads-up.

It doesn't matter if you're using DBs or a BB when it comes to cutting.

Like Juggs said, focus on diet. You will need to modify your routine though. Don't try to go for PRs. Instead, you'll want to keep the reps in the 10-12 range. Think 'muscle maintenance.'

The reasoning is simple: in order to go for PRs, you need more muscle. In order to grow more muscle, you need to eat a caloric excess of food. Which is the exact opposite of cutting.

And if you try to go for PRs when you're not eating enough, you risk overtraining; Which includes injury.

There's a great sticky in Diet & Nutrition that can help you with cutting. Go read it.

Focus on barbell compounds too. they utilize more bodyparts.

In what way does a barbell utilize more body parts than a DB? Or are you just saying compound utilizes more than isolation?
