Norton to star in 'Hulk'

Marvel sequel to be released in 2008

By MICHAEL FLEMING

Edward Norton has been set by Marvel Studios to play Bruce Banner in "The Incredible Hulk."

The Louis Leterrier-directed drama will be distributed by Universal Pictures, with an opening set for June 13, 2008.
It is a decided return to the mainstream for Norton, who recently has starred in such indies as "Down in the Valley," "The Painted Veil," and "The Illusionist." Pic will shoot this summer in Toronto.
Norton takes over a role played in the Ang Lee-directed "Hulk" by Eric Bana. Though that film opened strongly, it didn???t fare as well as other Marvel efforts, including "Spider-Man," "X-Men," "Fantastic Four" and, most recently, "Ghost Rider."
Marvel Studios, which has a $525 million credit facility obtained through Merrill Lynch, made "The Incredible Hulk" its second film under that arrangement, and seeks to make a sequel that is less self-serious and more in line with the comic series and TV show. Leterrier directed the action-filled "Transporter 2," and "Unleashed."
The new pic begins with Banner on the run, trying to avoid capture long enough to cure the condition that turns him into a misunderstood green menace.
"Edward Norton is a rare talent and one of the most versatile actors in the business," Marvel Studios production president Kevin Feige said in a statement. "His ability to transform into a particular role makes him the ideal choice to take on the character of Bruce Banner and the Hulk. Edward is perfectly suited to bring one of the most popular and important Marvel icons to the bigscreen in a new and exciting way."
The script for "The Incredible Hulk" was written by Zak Penn, who had a hand in crafting two "X-Men" films, "Fantastic Four" and "Elektra" for Marvel.
"The Incredible Hulk" is being produced by Avi Arad, Gale Anne Hurd and Marvel???s Feige. Jim Van Wyck, David Maisel, Ari Arad and Stan Lee are exec producing.
Norton, who will next be seen starring with Colin Farrell in the Gavin O???Connor-directed New Line drama "Pride and Glory," is repped by Endeavor. Read the full article at:

Edward is too sexy to be the hulk.

He's got more than enough talent to pull off being a nerd.

Yeah they will probably use a computer image for the Actual hulk.

Well You'd only assume thiws much. I just think he has much more potential then a Hulk movie. but whatever pays the bills i guess.

As are most. But the last one really flopped. The sequel wont be much better im sure

He's my favourite actor. Haven't seen the first Hulk movie though.

The best movies based on a comic book were the Batman movies.
Always a great cast

How could it be any worse? I mean, a giant mutant poodle?!

The problem with the first Hulk movie is that the script sucked in general, and the characters were sub-par. Edward can help with the later, and we'll have to wait to see about the former. There are plenty of good writers out there.

Spiderman was ok, not a kirsten Dunst fan though

she was good in interview with a vampire. she hasn't really "shined" since

Norton is also one of my favorite actors, but the script writer has produced some terrible movies. Fantastic Four? Come on that movie blew goats for quarters.

That was only one writer, and there were three total.

What really bothers me is that one of the others writers did Brokeback Mountain. I really hope that the next Hulk movie doesn't involve a big, green, throbbing member. :scared:

I liked the part in the Hulk when they showed him running- when they made him look really small compared to the earth- I thought that was the smartest and most funny part.

I'm a fan of everything in the genre. There hasn't been a bad comic book movie yet IMHO.

I love Spiderman but I also think they could have found an actress with better looks, her acting is not too shabby.
Exactly, MJ was a drop dead gorgeous player. Kirsten Dunst is not. She...at least that's how I remember it from all those years ago.

As for Norton being Bruce Banner. He's a good actor. Now just throw in the Abomination or the Juggernaut and we're in business.

I like the Abomination character better when Peter David wrote the Hulk. Hell, they should get Peter David to write the movie.

I wasn't very happy with the first Hulk movie. If I weren't a fan of the comic, I'd have really disliked the movie.

What the hell happened to "caught in the heart of a Nuclear Explosion, Victim of Gamma Radiation Gone Wild, Doctor Robert Bruce Banner now Finds Himself Transformed in Times of Stress into..."

That's the drama I'm looking for. Take on the Abomination--who nearly beat the hulk to death in their first encounter--and see what happens. Of course the hulk that he beat was a weaker iteration. It wasn't the true savage hulk who came to call him "Big Ears" in later editions.

My favorite encounter between them was when the Hulk was the intelligent and two inches tall. He played Jiminy Cricket to the Abomination.

That kind of character dissonance was too much for my attention span. I want to see Hulk Smash!

B/c, you know, he's the strongest one there is.

Nothing would crush me more than seeing the Hulk beaten: he went to hell and fought 6 10foot tall bruce banners that proceeded to kick the shit out of him. He got beat by the Manthing. He was beaten by the Absorbing Man--he choked out the Hulk. And on and on.

Nothing will ever beat the Hulk tv series where you had the average looking guy, Bill Bixby, then he would turn into Lou....

Trivia: Arnold Schwarzenegger had auditioned for the role, yet was turned down due to his inadequate height:roflmao:. Bodybuilder Lou Ferrigno auditioned and got the part almost at once.

True or not thats funny....

I watched him in end of days the other night and at one part it showed him laying on the floor and the soles of his fuckin' boots were almost 3 inches, they looked like Herman Munster boots...

One movie I am anxious to see is 'I Am Legend'
