What is the difference between effervescent creatine and regular creatine monohydrate, or is there even a difference?

The Game

Effervescent is fizzy, like alka-seltzer. Supposedly it is absorbed better, but I don't really think there is much of a difference.

Does the effervescent use salt? Cause I think I heard that somewhere...

THe Game

The effervescent delivery system has been around for years, but just became popular in the sports supplement industry. The effervescence is used to react with the water and alter the Ph of the creatine to make it more "user friendly" for your tummy. It will be absorbed better and more completely than regular creatine. However, there are two companies now selling something called "Titrated" creatine. This makes the creatine just as absorbable as the effervescent stuff, without the bubbles and for less money. If you are a person who gets stomach upset with reg creatine, than tirtated creatine may solve your problem.

How does it work? Does it just dissolve in your mouth like alka seltzer or do you swallow it?

Effervescent creatine usually comes in seperate foil pouches, pre-mixed with 5 grams of creatine. You pour it into water, stir it a little, and it will bubble and fizz. Once the fizz calms down, you simply drink it like regular creatine. The "reaction" that makes the creatine more absorbable happens as soon as the fizz starts.

Id never heard of it but i got 100s of free samples at the Olympia expo this year i tried it the other day its weird its just fizzes like alka selza i am taking creatine at the moment i couldnt tell you if it was any better i think its just something different really creatine is creatine after all! ;)

Well, creatine can come in different forms...monohydrate, phosphate, citrate, etc. The difference is in the absorbability. Most people absorb creatine very well, but some "non-responders" will get better results with the effervescent and titrated form.

i've heard there's less bloat with the citrate. anyone found that to be true?
