For my first post Maybe some of you can help me, Im 22 and have been lifting for several years and never before have I had elbow pain, I do curls using a curl bar and it creates pain after Im done but if I use the curl bar after the first set the pain goes away.

I've done curl bar curls and never had any problems and now my elbows have weird pain so Im sticking to just dumbell curls:confused:

You might have developed tendinitis in your elbows...

Solutions...
-ice your elbows for 15-20 minutes after each workout for about a week and see if that helps.
-warmup thouroughly before each bicep workout...do high rep dumbell curls, hammer curls, tricep extensions, and tricep pushdowns...15-20 reps each
-do dumbell curls first, then bar curls
-avoid bar curls entirely

Also make sure you are using proper form on all movements and not using weights that are forcing you to cheat and stress your tendon/ligament attatchments, rather than your muscles.

As gopro said, most likely elbow tendinitis.

This will sound too simple, but if a exercise hurts, stop and find another! :)

It sounds like you are doing the right thing, dropping the barbell curls and doing dumbbell curls.

Continue this until you can perform the barbell curls without any pain. You may want to wait a few weeks before you try them again.

Thanks for the info gopro, I would have never thought of tendinitis, Prince thanks too, Im gonna print out what you said and stick with that routine for the starting of the new year:yes:

Just to let you know I had the pain slightly last night it went away and when I woke up this morning it was not their, so thanks again and glad I found this forum instead of the porn :rocker:

This forum is much better than the section in off-topic.net about health

Later dudes :wave2: :wave2: and Happy New Year

i used to get pain in elbows as well and i bought some neoprene elbow pads for keeping the elbows warm.it helped out alot:thumb:

What exactly is tendinitis and how does one or I end up getting or having it, and will it go away forever or am I doomed to have it for life:(

It's when a tendon becomes inflamed. "The cause of tendinitis usually results from microscopic tears within the tendon and triggering an inflammatory response within the tendon. "

No, you're not doomed for life, but the chances that it will reoccur are higher for you than someone who has never had it.

You may want to look into getting some wraps too.

Use pantothenic acid (vitamin B5) to assist in speedy repair all your body's injuries. 250 to 500mg between meals works for me.

Tank, Do you use these all the time now, or only when you get a little sore in the elbows? I've been feeling a bit stretched in my elbows lately.

only when i'm benching heavy,6-8 reps.high reps with dumbells no i don't.but i always warm-up good though.:D

I just leave my sweatshirt on until I get so hot I can't stand it any longer. I figure that'll keep the joints warm. OCICBW

OK so the follow up is I took off for a week felt no pain in the elbows and I've done my chest, bicepts and triceps and warmed up real good and now I think Im fine so far, man I must be changing never had to warm up now I have to

Warm up properly now and save yourself from many injuries in the future:thumb:

hmm is there any way to warm up biceps?? other than doing the excerise with high reps at first....

doing what Pemburu has above here is what i do on a normal basis.i start EVERY work out with a 10 min cardio warm-up,bike/treadmill/stairstep,what ever.then at least 1-2 sets of a warm up excercise of what ever i'm going to train say bi for instance.some people say 1 warm up set is good, but i'm on the OLDER SIDE OF LIFE NOW AND NEED TO WARM UP MORE.its better to have warmed up enuf then to be injuried and not lift at all:thumb: :D

I'm currently having the same problem with my left elbow and wrist.. I just can't hold on to any barbell over 75lbs when trying barbell curls (straight bar). My doc has me on 200mg of Nimesulide (mild anti-inflammatory) and three weeks of rest ..

I think I'll go out and get me one of those Neoprene warmer too ..

Don't think it's all about warming up either. Mine got torn by being squased by a 180lbs opponent during Shootfighting training .. after 45 minutes of sparring (maybe fatigue).

Good luck, these things tend to come back every 2-3 years ..

I have posted about this before. I think it's just a way that we are lifting, I have the same problems, except they don't really hurt, they are just always clicking when I extend past a 90 degree angle and when I go less than that, but it's only while lifting weights, so it might be the way we are holding them, or we are doing the exercise (sp?) wrong. I don't think it's too serious to see a doctor, but if they continue to really bug you, then I suggest you do that, it won't hurt.
