Is it detrimental to body-building to be mostly fast-twitch muscle? I'm not sure how to figure out what type you are, but I think I may be mostly fast-twitch muscle.

No, it's a good thing. I believe type IIa is the fiber type most prone to hypertrophy.

You have both fast & slow twitch muscle, and no its not detrimental, it would be a good thing to have more. Think of what a runner looks like; sprinter, big muscles fast and explosive, fast twitch. Marathon runner, lean stamina, slow twitch.

i read somewhere both Type IIa and Type IIx are equally prone to hypertrophy, as their main difference is endurance to strength to speed ratio.

Fast twitch muscle fibers have the most potential for hypertrophy

http://www.ironmagazine.com/archive/Training_and_Hypertrophy.htm reads:

Typically, for hypertrophy to take place your reps should be in the 4-8 range. There is no need to ever use a weight that you cannot perform at least 4 reps with, unless your goal is pure strength. There are a few reasons that I say this, one is that when you train at 90 percent or higher of your maximum weight Type IIb muscle fibers are doing the majority of the work, and this will not do much for hypertrophy.
