HELP! I am 51 years old, 6', 275 lbs. I have access to free weights at any time, but my main problem is my job. I am an engineer on the railroad which involves sitting 10 - 12 hours a day (or night) with 8 - 10 hours of rest in between. This is 24 7 with no set schedule. I can be working any given hour of the day or night at any given time. I try to lift weights at home and walk for cardio at the other end of the road, but as you can see, it's not working too well as I am usually exhausted after work. Anybody out there in my situation? I'd like to improve my diet the most, but being on an engine with no real food for so long puts me at the mercy of bars and shakes. Are the ebooks on this site meant for people like me, or for "real" people with normal lives? Thanks in advance :) Joe

You will need to design a diet that revolves around food that can be kept in a cooler and do not have to be heated. cold poultry, 3 bean salads, etc. those types of food items.

why are you so exhausted if all you do is sit all day ? how much water do you drink daily ?

I agree with LAM's idea to pack a cooler and food ahead. PLanning and preparation are one of the keys to success.

Is it possible to begin your day ealier than you currently are(going to be earlier as well), and working out before work?

I think I am tired just due to mental stress - it's kinda like being in rush hour traffic for 10 hours. I usually wake up to the phone calling me to go back to work. The cooler is a good idea, though we are already carrying about 40 pounds of gear with us - rule books, clothing, misc railroad gear etc. I'll have to work on that cooler. Any other thoughts? Besides changing jobs! Too late for that in my career! Thanks. Great forum! :thumb:
