I injured my knee and shoulder falling down during a hike 3 months ago and I am in the process of recovery so I have not been working out at all. I was on a 3000 calorie a day diet before getting hurt and right afterwards I dropped my diet down to 2500 calories but was gaining weight and water all over my body.
About 3 weeks ago I dropped my intake to around 2000 calories and I am still getting fat. I am really confused, could my metabolism be this bad? How can I be gaining weight at 2000 calories a day? I am thinking about dropping down to 1600 a day but is that healthy?
I am still in a lot of pain when doing anything more than just walking and doing basic movement. I have started stretching as much as I can but I am still not in any shape to start lifting.
When I got injured I was 210 pounds but was cross training 3 days a week. Now I am 232 pounds and my waist have gone from 34 to 38 :geewhiz: I am 5'9"

Any advise would be appreciated.

Yea I fell your pain I was layed. Up and gained a little weight I was on a lot of pain meds and they slow metabolism down bad but I'm really encouraged by my progress its been two months since the doctor cleared me work out and I'm cleaning up my diet and things are coming around great , I had a lot of pain but as soon as they said I could work out I was there god bless

First, drop off the carbs. You are mostly laying around recovering so you do not need that many. Look at a plain jane Keto diet where you take in no more than 30 grams of carbs. And the carbs should come from veggies, not chips and crap. Also, look at the meds you are on. Pain killers and some prescription anti-inflammatory drugs will slow your metabolism down. Take an real honest look at your eating and drinking habits. That one or two beers add up to lots of empty calories when carried over a few days. It is hard to go further without more info on your diet. With all that said, IMHO I would be focusing on rehabing that knee and not worrying about some extra weight.

Doing something as far as exercise will help in recovery even if it is walking around on crutches. Sounds like an injury you should be seeing a doctor about or at least a PT.
Doing nothing and then starving yourself will only make things worse.
