Gloves? To use or not to use...that is the question.

My hands are already fucked from my job as an antique furniture refinisher. I use gloves because I have a pinched nerve in my hand from too much abuse. So don't let the fake tough guys make you do something you don't want to do.

Tore up my hands when I went without gloves Monday. Bled everywhere. Without gloves I'd have to take a 2-3 week break.

There is nothing wrong with that. I think Stead was talking more to the people trying to come off all tough because their hands look like shit. Chicks do not dig scar tissue, the same as most chicks do not like huge muscles. To say otherwise shows that you do not pay attention to the world around you.

I think some girls like big muscles and some dont in the same way as some girls like long hair and some hate it. Its all down to taste. For me I wear gloves because I prefer it and I dont believe that presents me with any less grip or suggests I'm any less tough.

Right now I'm off to my bare knuckle fighting class...

I use gloves and I have no problem with it.

I dont believe they impact on grip strength at all - ultimately how can soft leather gloves somehow support the weight you are holding? Now straps, thats different.

1) They stay dry, so there's never the sweaty hand problem.
2) They have a higher coefficient of friction. Improved traction.

They just allow for a "stickier" grip, easing the effort needed to hold it.

The advantage gloves give you is so minor that I don't consider it a valid argument.

No gloves. Gloves are shoes for your hands. Who wants shoes for you hands when lifting?
I understand the girl argument but that is not a problem for me.

Sorry - not convinced by that - When I deadlift for examply, its forearm strength vs the weight in my hands - I dont believe that weight (and therefore the stress on my hands) is any less because I have gloves on. I can see it for friction but I dont rush through reps quick enough or swing weights around for that to be a problem either.

Well then I give up. I've never actually ever put a pair of gloves on before. That was just a theorised guess.

i always use gloves, without them my hands tear and all that BS and i can lift harder

I feel a much better grip and more control wearing the gloves.
This is especially true for me when working traps.
