I came across this off the Anabolex forums and I thought it pretty well summed up the way a real lifter sees things as well as what is so great about powerlifting. Pretty straight forward.. I love it, dap to whoever Baracus is that wrote this..forgive me if this is a repost

Powerlifter (& Strongman) Mindset By Baracus

I will break down the powerlifter mindset, as you havnt got a clue..Powerlifting is the true brotherhood of iron.Your competitor will cheer you on at a meet.. Its not about arrogance. Of course , you want to win, but in the end, a pr is better than a trophy and no pr. This is how we think.

550x4 is not impressive to you?? This tells me one or 2 things...#1 You are too insecure to admit to being impressed by someone elses feat of strength,,#2 You aint no powerlifter...You know what is impressive?? 100% effort, by anyone. Erman is extremely impressive to me, BFP, Viking, Strongman ,hell, EVERYONE in this forum is impressive to me. My lifts are better than some, some are better than mine....A 200 lb bench is impressive to me, whe the guy only did 150 3 months ago...If i hit 500 on the bench this year,, I guarantee bfp will be one of the first to congratulate me,,yet, he will probably be at 800 at the time..

You see, this is real to most of us. No ego. NO bs, just busting ass. Impressive is progress, the road traveled, not a number..Im not trying to be dick, but if you learn the ways of our brotherhood, you will see what i mean..I used to be a bodybuilder, and i never got it. I do now, and i have to say, I am a happier man today..

Good luck in what lies ahead for you bro....

amen!

man, i cant tell you how much guys like you and that guy mean to us newbs to the gym. I mean when i first started last year a big fellow, came and helped me out. taught me the ropes, just for my sake. He wasnt getting anything out of it except for seeing me make some progress. He showed me the correct form, which exercises, intensity, u name it. This is the kind of thing that u want to see when you go into a gym, and your new to it and your not as big as others. Guys who arent worried bout how macho they can be and boast theyre lifts, but being knowledgeable to others. thanks alot bro ;)

don't be afraid to ask questions and go over things that you don't understand, theres no shame in it. The cats that try and play like they know everything and are so macho are the most insecure and foolish people out there, fronting like theres no tommorrow, ya feel me. "Even a genius asks questions.." -Tupac.. thats what we are all here for maYn. peace

The man speaks the truth..

I agree. There is nothing wrong with complimenting a newbie who is trying hard, its all about the effort, as long as some brains are involved in the training as well. A lot of training has to do with beating down those mental barriers, most people, probably myself included, dont yet know what 100% is, I'm still chasing it.

awesome words man. im a newb, but ive made some great progress. a friend from hs saw me and asked if he can workout with me. i tell him the exact same thing. numbers dont matter, its the effort that counts. u put max effort in the max reps will come in time.

great post...if only more people had that type of mindset.

I'm a powerbuilder.

1. Bodybuilding is just fitness without power
2. powerlifting without fitness is a sport for the obese

that my opinion, but its easily understandable. I think powerlifters go overboard on the calorie intake and eventually they can look just fat, and not strong.

I think bodybuilders go overboard with the light weight trying to make it feel 2x's heavier.

I would never want to bench 900lbs if I were to look like gene, but I also don't want to look bigger than what I lift.

I was once a powerlifter who didn't care about what I looked like, but I learned you have to make a balance in life with everything. Without a balance you get to much of one thing, and to much of one thing always turns out bad.

Powerlifting is a really fun sport. I actually still do it strictly. I do phases a few months of power a few months of hypertrophy a few months of intense cardio. Lets face it gene isn't going to lift 900lbs forever, once thats gone, he wont have anything to show for what he worked for all his life, he could also have a heart attack (being agile and mobile has nothing to do with cardiovascular condition, and heart complications) He will only have memories and videos of what he accomplished. But in reality he will walk down the street and no one would guess he benched 900lbs. They would just think he eats 900lbs. Now for Scot Mendelson who I respect far more, isn't obese, he lifts over 900lbs, you can tell aesthetically he is strong, and his fruits of his labor are reaped and are visible.

Powerlifting is a great sport- stay fit and keep your body shape
Bodybuilding is a great sport- stay humble- stay strong
Fitness is for girlie men (Arnohld) get down! get down now!
