Anyone who played in one of the four major sports qualifies. Surely there have been some great international athletes who competed in track and field and shit like that, but they never get mentioned in discussions like this.

I dont think most pro cyclists would even pick Lance as the greatest cyclist of all time. My guess would be Eddy Mercx.

Yes, he won all the major jerserys, the green (sprint), yellow( overall) and king of the mountain jerseries while doing the tour. All three require such different strategies and skills and I don't think any other tour has produced one who can do all three...kind of the Bojackson of the tour. last year, before the Tour, Erick Zabel was ranked above Lance. (He has won the green jersey 6 years? in a row) . But he also competes in more races than Lance. I must say, it was Lance's near miraculous recovery from a cancer that had invaded his brain and lungs ( he had to have a lung resection which reduced his lung capacity , but he was gifted with such a high VO2 he could afford the loss) amd to stilll go on to mutilate the most gifted cyclists out there is amazing. Also, he was a great triathelete and still is a great cyclocross racer.

I think Barry Sanders is the greatest of all time, His legs are incredible, combined with his agility to move, I've never seen no one move like he moved, to bad he retired.

I have to agree, Barry Sanders has gotta be up there somewhere. Jim Thorpe and Bo Jackson are imo the two best two sport athletes, nothing against deion, I just think he may have been the best cornerback ever not the best center fielder, but decent. If Bo would not have gotten hurt, he might have been like Barry Bonds with 40hr and 40sb a season, and he probably would have gained 2000 yards at least once in the NFL, too bad he got hurt, I still remember him running sideways on the outfield wall to catch a ball. But I'll throw Michael Jordan in there as well, he belongs up there I think.

Jim Brown should also be up there as well as a back, he was an incredible athlete. I take back my comment about basketball being the most athletic, I think that football edges BB out. Barry Sanders is a great pick also, and Bo jackson, for sure

I think Walter was a better all around RB, but I've never seen anyone move like Barry. He would be the all time rushing leader if he wouldn't have retired early. No doubt in my mind that Barry was the better athlete of the two though, but Walter is one of the greatest atheltes as well.
