I was reading in IronMan Magazine about the benefits of X-reps or basically half reps at the end of each set of each exercise. I've been doing these for about 2 weeks and damn do they burn your muscles in different ways than I've never felt before. I think they're great.

What do you guys think of them? Ever tried them before? Thanks.

 i seen them in a magazine but never tried them...

"X-Reps" ROFL!!!!! :funny:

Next thing you know, FLEX magazine is promoting a book called "X-Reps," and the only way you can find the secrets of doing these reps is by buying the book, only to find out it is a half assed rep done with poor form.

:funny:

Listen, I started lifting before you were out of diapers so don't give me any shit about poor form. I only wanted to know if some of the people on this forum have tried them. By doing these half reps at the end of the set, it gives more muscle fatigue and an increased stretch that may help me break through a mini plateau that I'm in.

ohwell...most ppl dont try crap out of magazines  no offense but yeah

How would half reps provide increased stretch? :hmmm:

It would definitely give you more muscle fatigue if that is what you are going for.

Nevermind; they are working for me and that is really all that matters. Thought I would share some info and ask questions, but I forgot about the harrasment that a lot of people on here get from a lot of members.

Are we talking half rep - as in a partial rep or lock-out? Loading up the weight higher than usual and reducing the range of motion? I find them great.

I do 3/4 reps most of the time for pressing movements, just to save my joints but I do see your point.....it is good to mix it up from time to time

I use partials, but generally I use them to help strengthen a weak point in a lift. However, they can be useful for development of certain muscles. For example, 1 and 1/4 bench pressing is supposed to be superior for stimulating the chest, as the chest is more active at the bottom portion of the bench press.

Ive been playing with max contraction lately, once the muscle is fatigued and I cant manage one more rep, I usually hold one more rep for about 20 seconds at the max contraction position (usually mid point). I find it realy exhausts my muscles!

I dont know about the validity of the results, but I enjoy doing it!

Good technique, especially on exercises like curls. I would use them sparingly though as they're tough on your CNS.
