Heart Health Question..

Have a heart related question, hope this is the right section to post it in.. It is food related though. Anyway I've become determined to change some old bad habits and start working out again like I used to. I have always worked out off and on through out the years but have always had an unhealthy diet. Fast food for lunch everyday, sodas as my fav drink and most eveningd so at 37yo I know I have to make a change. BTW, my metabolism has always been fairly fast and I haven't really gained much fat from my eating habits, well I've also always been really active in one way or the other. But anyway my question is this..can the hands of time (regarding the heart) be turned back completely if a person dedicates themselve to eat right and exercise. I mean will plaque on arteries and heart be eliminated in time.. and if so, how long would that take?

I've gone in and changed the title of this thread to read "Heart health..." instead of "Hearth health..." and it's corrected when I preview it but never changes after I hit the post button, don't know why.

There is no determined X amount of time to undue what you have done by eating fast food and drinking soda every day. What you CAN do is STOP NOW, come up with a healthy diet by reading the stickies, come up with a starting training program (nothing too crazy so you don't get discouraged) and then post everything back here. The more experienced members will critique it (both the diet and the exercise program) and you will be on your way. Honestly man, I was just like you and one day I woke up and decided to quit smoking and start eating healthy and working out... my mind and body felt good by the second day. Then the physical effects start to take place along with the mental. It's truly a great thing.

I get what you're saying and I agree, but I guess I'm looking for a general answer, not so much specific. For instance (and there may indeed not be answer) would it take apprx 15 years of good to erase the 15 years of bad? Or does it correct much quicker than it builds up..aren't there foods that get eaten in a healthy diet that "scrub" the heart..as silly as that sounds.. but I mean like oatmeals sort of has that effect right?
