So, I'm male, 18, pretty average guy... 176 lbs at 21% body fat. Doing variations of p90x workouts.

I just got into working out about 4 months ago, on and off.

I've tried using 100% whey protein (post workout) but after 2 months i decided to stop using it because it didnt feel as if it was working.

Now recently I bought a pre-workout formula called Bluestar Nutraceuticals
Extreme Rush (Grape flavour).

It's supposed to give you more power and energy before working out.
When I bought it I asked the owner of the place for instructions and such,
and he said to take it 15-20 minutes before your workout, (pretty much the instructions on the container)

HOWEVER, after taking it, I feel like I have LESS energy and strength.

For example, without any supplement I can go through a whole workout of p90x, but with Extreme Rush, I can't even go through three quarters of it.

Why does this happen? Is this normal? Does my body just need to adjust better to is first? Anything else you can tell me? :hmmm:

Ahhhh, how I have missed the classic ADHD too much attention to detail questions of the bodybuilding forums.

Well first red flag is you said your on and off. Before you start buying supplements why dont you work on consistency. Once you get consistency, then we can talk about the basics of nutrition and food. Once you get food down pat, you will already be 10lbs heavier and will have to spend your leftover money on more food.

Oh, and get rid of p90x.
 
No, when I say on and off I mean, 1 month working out following the schedualing of p90x, then one month off, one month on again, one month off, just to keep up my strength/physique without getting too big.

what's wrong with p90x? It works perfectly fine.

What, exactly, are you after? What result do you want from a supplement?
 
That particular attribute isn't available in pill or powder form. Not immediately anyway.

P90X is a lot of metabolic work, but it's not a strength gaining programme. What are your immediate physique goals - strength, leanness, muscle size (hint: pick one, you can't do 'em all at once)?

Well, apparently the supp. I'm taking is for leanness and power (strength), and that is what the body builder at my local fitness store suggested. And he is a bodybuilder. (A Natural Olympus Middleweight Winner, I believe) Can't remember what year he won, though.
 
Oh, shit, listen, I hate to be the one to tell you, but those guys just tell you that to make the sale.

You're in the right place here to reach your goals - you just post up your routine and your diet and we'll help you tweak it to get to where you want to be.

How can you trust us? Well, you can trust me at least: you'll notice I'm not trying to sell you anything. ;)

Listen, you want something to amp you up preworkout: pop a caffeine tab or a strong cup of coffee. You want a bit more? Toss in an ephedrine. You want to feel a pump? (it won't do anything, it's cosmetic but if it makes you happy...) try some cheap bulk arginine.

Anyone who's been at this for a while will tell you most supplements aren't worth the plastic bottle they're packaged in.

I'm not sure about any of you but sometimes when I take a NO2 supp the pump gets so tight it makes you feel like you dont have the power to get another rep out but its not because I am weak at that point its because the muscle I am working at that point is just to tight.


Also the P90X, I think it is a great program, sure it wont turn you into a bodybuilder or a mass mutant, but it is a really good program it does give results. So if your just wanting to get lean add some shape and maybe an inch or two in diff parts then I say keep it up, and just make sure you eat good nutrition and stay consistant bro.

On a side note, I dont sell P90X Im not one of those "jump on the wagon its the only thing" sort of people just for the record. I only think it is good because of the people I know who have done it and how they changed.

The supplement you are taking is basically a blend of the following significant ingredients: caffeine, vitamin B-12, L-Arginine, taurine, glutamine, creatine. Basically caffeine, B-12 and taurine work as stimulants (it's basically what you would find in a typical energy drink) while creatine works at giving you the so called strength. Personally, I'd stay away form such blends. You will basically pay a high premium for having these products slapped together when you can get them individually for a fraction of the cost. Not to mention it's always better to have them seperate so that you can control your dosing to suit you. Instead of such product, I would recommend grabbing a tub of creatine monohydrate. You can find this product for under $20 which should last you for 3 months at least. As far as the energy blend, you can simply buy some caffeine pills and taurine for dirt cheap and take some prior to workout. Even budget brand energy drinks would be a better bet along with some creatine on the side rather than something like this. That is just my opinion.

As far as your statement about giving up weigh protein because "it just didn't work." I'm having a hard time understanding how this could be. It's basically like saying I gave up on eating high protein foods while training because they just didn't work. Supplementing weigh protein will not give you a fixed immediate effect but is intended to help you built more muscle over time. I would stick to weigh protein unless your diet treats you with plenty.
