So for the past year or so I've been working out with someone and found to enjoy my workouts more and was also able to push myself a bit harder since the extra motivation factor. Recently however, my friend has adopted a schedule that doesn't really suit me because his girlfriend tags along with him to the gym. We use to workout early but now for the majority of the workouts he ends up at the gym around 7-7:30pm. So here's my dilema, do I push myself to go to the gym that late with him (it's basically two hours before I go to bed) and try to adapt my body to this schedule and have him as a spot/motivation factor or do I continue going to the gym in the mornings at which time I really feel I can lift more and my energy is soaring compared to the evenings. I'm not sure if I should sacrifice a spotter for what I feel is naturally my body's best time for a workout. I'm on a compound only routine right now to gain size and strength. Suggestions?

Stick to your morning workouts for sure. There are ways around using a spotter. Its not like you need a spotter on all of your lifts. Do you have acces to a Power rack etc Worst case scenario just ask someone to spot when u need it.

Deffinently don't go fucking with body clock thing you got going on. Im naturaly an evening lifter and i know if i tried to switch to mornings, my gains would deffinently suffer.

Stick with your AM lifts, and just get a spotter. I always do better with a spotter, but never my friends. I find when some random person is standing behind me with 3 whatever on my back, it's a lot easier to get it up. What kind of gym are you in? I would think there would be someone there. You can also try to make a friend, if you see someone there at the same time, often.

Workout alone bro. You shouldnt need a spotter for any lifts than BB bench/incline. If you cant get someone to spot you, use DB's, or do a hybrid set of BB presses, then the heavy stuff on hammer-strengths. No point in sacrificing your own gains just b/c you are cool with someone, he'll understand.

Alone. I can focus like crazy when I'm alone and in the zone. No spotter = Pushing Harder

Particularly w/ the gf tagging along, unless she's lifting ball to the wall w/ you, its just goin to distract form any progress. And just very simply, if it doesn't fit your schedule, its going to be very frustrating trying to work with that. Personally, I've trained most of my life w/o a training partner. Its very hard to find a female who lifts like I do, and I also don't like fitting to someone else's schedule. W/ my work schedule I have always even hated trying to do classes because I can never be sure if I can get there on time.

There are many ways to work w/o a spotter, and just make sure you have a couple people or even trainers, you can ask when you need one. I have a couple of guys at one of my gyms who I trust for spotting. And w/ just an occasional help up, I'm usually able to handle that same weight myself at the next session. Squatting is something I do wish I had a spotter for because I'm at my upper limit w/o one right now. But outside of that, I make do pretty decently.
