well if your talking a bench max then this is not the case. Stretching is not the thing to do before a lift, it can decrease your strength bro. Start warming up by introducing the movement to your body. you can start with a lite weight and work down from 5 reps to 3 to singles. Stretching out the antagonist muscle like the lats can be helpful also. things like that
lift one arm into the air straight up, then use the other arm to pull it towards the arm you are using to pull, and then lean in the direction you are pulling, feel it? thats the lat muscle!
