Wife went to a doctor recently and she told her like it was on wife's health. She was 5'4" and weight was 240lbs. Dr. told her to make some major changes now or have major health problems soon.
She has started walking and counting calories (1200 a day). I told her if she stayed on the path probably be 3 yrs before her weight was back to average.
It's is going to be a big turn for her and me. My question is how can I support her without breaking her will? How do you make workouts fun? How do you answer excuses? When she plateaus what then?
Any advise Ladies will be helpful want to see my wife win this time.

Well the fact that she started walking and counting calories is a huge step, she just needs to stick with it and she needs to make sure that after she gets to her goal she continues to do cardio and have a good diet. You can support her by working out with her and giving her encouraging words. I think setting small goals for herself would make working out more fun and she will slowly see progress which will make her more confident and more determined to stick to her MAIN goal. If she starts making excuses then all you can do is push her to keep going or maybe change the routine so she doesnt get to sick of it. When she does hit her plateau she will need to change something that she is doing(increase the cardio or lower calorie intake).
Hope i could help you :)

Thanks for the input Miss Springsteen. Want her to get some much needed self confidence.
Also to you to Reddog mashed potatoes are her weakness. Going to try them as a substitute.

well she will def get some self confidence by working out and getting back in shape..it def help me gain self confidence. good luck to you both!

Most women do not like heavy lifting like men....my wife is good at it...but hates it...the walking and counting calories is gonna take the weight off if she sticks with it....recent studies solidify the theory that cardio is the key to burning belly fat(hate!)...but i sometimes put my wife thru circuit training...cardio and weights all in one...its fun and a challenge...can be done with a pair of dbs

example db circuit

db shrugs
db laterals
db press
db curl
overhead ext
pushup
bent db rows
db squats or lunges
crunches
single calf raise while holding db

only rest as much as needed...weight will be light so shouldnt need much
