Hi, I'm interested in fat loss. I've been doing cardio for a while, just the old long-duration, low-intensity kind.

Recently, I've been thinking of starting HIIT training for fat loss, so:
1. Is this a good idea?
2. Which way should I do it? (Bike, running, elliptical, etc). I hear trying to do this on a treadmill is a really stupid idea:D

Thanks.

HIIT is great cardio for fat loss and help preserve LBM. Any piece of cardio equipment will do, just as long as you do the intervals. :)

For the most part, HIIT is effective, IMO. However, I have found that the best fat-loss program is a consistent strength -training program concomitant with a caloric-deficient diet; and you don't have to "starve" yourself unnecessarily.

Agree treadmill does not respond fast enough for the short kind of intervals that I do (20 sec wprint 10 sec jog cycle). I really like the elliptical or running. On the elliptical I just dial in a constant moderate intensity (like level 11/20), go in pure manual mode and then go fast as the clock hits every sprint interval. You could also hold speed to near constant and pump up the resistance but I find the other way to be more effective at getting the heart rate up and down for proper HIIT.
