No im not sucking up, seriously i just read
"facillitates long axon nerve signal propagation from target muscle to brain."
AND
..."myocyte nuclei (satellite cells waiting to differentiate into specific fiber types once they become incorporated into a fiber - a truely ultracool process) migration to the ends of the fibers."

where the crap do you learn all of this? Do you all have kinesiology degrees or something?.. and dont just say books... be specific :P

Most or all of them have degrees in the related fields. Robert not going to make an idiot a mod or a shitload of us would be one.

Mods command a great deal of respect because of that status, so they need to be able to back it up. Like Tough said, idiots arent going to be made mods.

Makes no sense.

That's just trouble pwning everyone.

Other than the magic 8 ball we get upon entrance, the things you mention are standard study material in NASM certification (National Academy of Sports Medicine).

Propawhat? Nuclewhat?

3 sets of 10. Yeah, do that.

they have a "secret" website they go to and just copy&paste things from it. :hehe:

Nice avy... Much better than the gay cats.:p :D

Yeah.....ya know I been meaning to ask.....now I know I'm new here, but....what's with all the freaking cat avatars??

Are they a good source of protein? :chomp:

And I am the biggest idiot

WTF? Iain, when did you make mod? I'm away for a day and you've made mod. Congratulations!

A couple of weeks???

Umm... I think I need to stop drinking.

You are not the only one I can't remember a week going by for the longest time where I haven't been drunk at least a couple of days during the week.

Last weekend was a closing point. I only had one beer, but that was after my hockey game lol

You can't remember a week going by huh? I can't remember a day going by. Of course I wasn't drunk all of those days, ahhh at least I don't think I was. :shhh:

This "Nuclewhat" you mentioned intrigues me. I'd like to learn more about it.

Can any of you recommend books to read.. you said you had to train for NASM how did you study are there text books? are there any good websites around?

nasm.org or .net or something, its a certification for personal training.

as far as books go, you really can't learn everything from one book. a book is one authors' view on the subject. you need to read abstracts of studies, whole studies, articles, books etc and the knowledge builds up over time until one day it all just 'clicks' into place.

The book is taken from studies and existing scientific literature, the citations for every chapter are a page long or more.

They also offer videos along with the book, if you so choose (or CD study materials). I chose VHW + the book, the book is the base study material and is pretty damn huge. You have 90 days from purchase of the materials to take and pass your test, or you pay $99 for a re-schedule for the test. I believe you have to wait 30 days if you fail previously.

IMO this test will not be a breeze unless you can find the time to get serious with studying, and are really interested in making it happen. Some may find it easy, but I would venture most think its easier than it is. More than one personal who has taken some other certifications said they were easy, most notably was ISSA which has gained popularity, but this is not the only forum where I have seen people say it was worthless by comparison. While ISSA is gaining popularity it is not one of the "big 3" that I see most often requested by gyms.

i got mine through the net. when i took it there was one part with lots of multiple choice questions and a certain time limit. don't remember the specifics though this was long time ago. second part was a hypothetical trainee with certain problems comes to train with you and you must write out a program using their periodization scheme.

i failed the second part the first time i took it, then read the book at night and it sorta 'clicked' for me, the whole program just made sense, i took it again the next day and passed.

the net is a copout i think, true. but you still need to know your shit cause you can't really look questions up that quickly.
