I use my Nalgene bottle at work to drink water throughout the day, but also a couple times for my protein shake. I do my best in rinsing it out in between every refill and wash it out with soap every now and then.

However, I noticed stuff underneath the big cap this morning, and am wondering if anyone knows of a product that will "kill" this stuff off of the cap. Something that wouldn't require me to use anything else but the product and water and shaking the contents and pouring it out.

Thanks!

I just get a new one. Everytime I order a bag of protein from bulk nutrition they give me a new shaker bottle. And when water bottles get mouldy smelling I just buy a bottle of water and use that one.

I do the same but every few days I ditch it and buy a new one. Those can get pretty nasty too.

I use Electrosol. Stuff works really well. I cant imagine throwing a Nalgene bottle away just because it gets dirty. I've used the same Nalgene every day for about 2 years.

Let me clarify...you want to break 1/2 a tab (or a whole) and soak it in the bottle overnight. One tab is typically used for a whole load in the dishwasher, so this is nice and potent.

I use a bottle brush and hot soapy water.

If you want to be lazy pour a bottle of alcohol in and shake it around, I'm sure that will sanitize it some.

My shake bottles are old Gatorade's. I like them because they fit in my hand nice, come in the right size for my shakes and are rugged with a tight fitting cap.

At home, my water bottle is my shaker jug. I have 4 of them that hold about 30ozs. I just rinse them after each use and run them thru the dishwasher every week or so. I do have a 32oz thermal cup at work that I use only for water, and a seperate one for shakes. I just rinse it after each use. No soap, no brush, no muss.

Nalgene's kick ass...they are dishwasher friendly so run them thru a cycle or two and you should be good to go. I notice the same thing with mine (I have several...like to change the colors up...LOL). Scary thing is I let them get pretty damn gross before I worry about it....and I'm still alive and well...LMAO

Mix up one tablespoon of bleach to one gallon of water. After you wash the bottle out as good as you can with hot soapy water, add this bleach mixture to the bottle, shake and let it sit for 10 minutes. After that, pour the water out and let the bottle air dry. No rinse needed. This solution is a "sanitizing" solution and Clorox recommends it for instances such as this - bottles, straws and other hard to reach/clean items.
I read this many years ago in a magazine Clorox add. I actually tore it out of the magazine and keep it in my kitchen recipe box. There's also a disinfecting solution that you do need to rinse but I don't remember it offhand. :)

Oh - the sanitizing solution will loose its effectiveness after 24 hours, so sanitize everything you can before tossing the remaining solution ;)

Hope this helps.
