Really howcome? I used to train about 1 year ago. I didn't know what I was doing just doing it for fun/hobby. I done all my cardio before lifting and only went on to use machine weights. Then I took 6months out from the gym because my pass expired and began a crash diet  I lost nearly 4 stone in 4/5 months not healthy I know. Do you think because I have just had this experience I now find it difficult to gain weight, I never use too :(

It is such a shock to your body the first time that you do it, all kinds of metabolic processes go crazy and kick into overdrive in an attempt to adapt. That's just the nature of the beast. Once you have been doing it for a while, your body has already largely adapted to the stress placed on it, and progressive overload becomes continually harder to implement. This is one reason why periodization becomes so important later in your training career.

If you are having trouble gaining weight, then just increase your caloric intake a little bit. Those numbers in Jodi's article don't work for me either. I have been losing weight a little bit recently eating about 3800 calories each day. I'm down to about 192-193. So, maintenance for me at the bodyweight is about 20 calories per pound of bodyweight. There is trial and error involved.

drop the oats with the post work out shake and have some fast acting carbs pasta rice cake hell a cookie get that protein to your muscles

wow that means if i don't train and eat above maintanance i'll put weight
:hmmm:

umm... yeah. what do you think excess weight is? I wasn't talking about pure muscle, I'm saying: IF you are eating ABOVE maintenance calories (the amount of calories it takes to MAINTAIN your body weight) then you WILL gain weight. It doesn't matter if you are eating twinkies or steak, if you're running a marathon every day, or watching runners on TV. If you are eating more calories than you are burning, you are putting on weight.

If you want to put on muscle mass, then your workout has something to do with that. Still, diet is far more important, as your body can only add so much muscle before it gains weight.

So... if you want to gain weight, eat more. :thumb:
If you want to gain muscle, then continue to exercise and... eat more. :thumb:

:banned: wow that means if i don't train and eat above maintanance i'll put weight:clapping: .....:finger: ofcourse training has a lot to do if u did pull ups and push ups u won't add weight only using proper resistance training with eating above maintanance as u said would make u add weight ,,,,,,u must do more resistance training with free weights:hot: :rocker:
Umm, no. If you eat above mainenance and you don't train you'll get fat (that's even possible with training), so yes, you will put on weight, it just won't be the kind you want.

you must not be taking your celltech and nitrotech.

Ok, I have been bulking for nearly 4months now and I am a beginner, I train hard and eat loads but all clean! And my point is, in the mirror I appear bigger but on the scales I havnt put on a damn pound!
At first I gained 3-5 lbs but I believe this was due to creatine loading. I used monohydrate neway which I believe is bull.
What I am asking is how long will it take to gain muscle according to the scales? Is this when the real progress starts? Coz im loosing my patience now I thought the best results comes when your a beginner?

Your best results do come when your a beginner given you aren't eating "CLEAN". YOU SHOULD BE CRAMMING YOUR MOUTH FULL OF CALORIES!!!;)

i'm joking ofcourse i'll put fat read the post from the begining i was telling him that he must use proper resistance training to put muscles not just a cardio type workout like the one he posted........

I'm sorry but I don't agree. I'm eating like a pig, I always make sure I'm full after every meal. Not so long ago I ate less than have I do now and I piled on the pounds. It was just not healthy food. Also, my friends have made good progress and they dont pay attention to their diet. Something is holding me back, maybe I just got got crappy genetics? But I sure aint gonna dwell on that one! I also make sure I have a minimum of 8hours sleep each night.

Gaining weight is not about being full, at all. Eat every 2-3 hours and make sure all of your macro's in order. If your not gaining weight then your NOT eating enough, plain and simple.

One thing I can say about your diet is that your having too many shakes, ditch the pre workout shake and replace it with real food.

Make sure you monitor your overall calories daily, and within 7 days, if you have not gained any weight, bump your diet up to an additional 200 calories. Keep doing this until you see weight gain

It is not fun at first, i know you do not want to experiment for a week because you want results immediately but the more patient you are the better your gains will be.
