Forgive the newbie questions but I'm starting over with bodybuilding after more than 8 years and I'm trying to do it right this second time.

So whats the consensus on the number of times that a person should train any give body part? Is once enough or should I be doing more?

Also how many excercises in one session should I perform for a body part? For example should I do bench presses, incline presses and flyes on the same day or is that to much for the chest in a workout?

Finally as a beginner what excercises should I be doing? I'm assuming the basics are probably a good start but I just want to be sure I'm starting off on the right foot.

here's a list of the excercises that should comprise the core of any routine:

squats
deadlifts
bench press (barbell or dumbell, incline, decline, flat)
military press
dips
pull-ups (some call em chins)
rows (barbell, dumbell, or cable)
barbell curls

about training frequency a lot of people use a split were they train each bodypart once a week, but i have read that you're capable of much more than that, you just have to adjust the volume per workout accordingly. I read that as long as you have the feeling that you want to train, you're not in a state of overtraining, even if your muscles are still sore.

Doing each body part once per week seems to work for most people. However, some people seem to need to hit certain parts of their body more. If once per week works for you, then stick with it.

That is my exact chest workout right now: bench, incline bench, and flys. That is perfectly fine. I do 3 sets of each exercise. I say sometihng like 8-12 sets is good for most body parts.

do one bodypart once a week, but make sure you realy work it out good so it can rest for one week........when i first just started out training i didnt know shit and i didnt have anyone to ask so i trained 5 days a week for like 2 hours doing every bodypart..... untill i got sick of it and then ilearned that i overtrained............it was shity, good luck to ya man
