hi dudes, i am 5'9", and weigh 183, and am a beginner, is it true to gain muscle mass i should be getting at least 1 to 2 grams of protein per pound a day(everyday)? so would 183 grams of protein be sufficient?

if so, i was wondering what kind of diets you veteran body builders normally follow? does it involve eating meat everyday? i am not a vegetarian by any means but my family has a history of heart disease and high cholesterol and i fear eating meat every day would put me at risk. i have bought some protein shakes but i can only seem to get up to about 110 grams of protein a day, is at least 183 grams of protein really necessary to gain muscle mass? also note i'm going for a vin diesal or the rock physique, not really a hardcore arnold physique, any help would be appreciated, thanks broskis.

cool, it seems both you dudes have a 6 to 7 meal a day diet, that sounds like something i could try. hey PreMier, thanks for the example of your diet. i noticed you listed 3510cals, do you go for high calorie, lower fat foods? how many calories should a 5'9", 183 pound person go for?

Depends. Each person is different. At 3500 cals, I was at maintenance(5'8" 197lbs). For me to gain I have to go to about 4500-4700 cals. You could try for 3000-3500 and see how that goes for you.
Yea, all of my food was low fat. Just meat, veggies. Cost quite a bit to eat like that though lol

mighty wombat,
As any bodybuilder would probably tell you, "you must have at least 6 meals a day". Stick to the leaner proteins. Don't be afraid of downing 2 - 3 scoops of whey protein between your meals either. If you're going for a hard vin diesal look the main thing would probably be to get/keep the bodyfat down & build muscle tissue. Try to monitor your carbohydrate intake, "that's your key to low bodyfat levels".
