how many cals./ grams of protein should i consume each day if i'm 140 lbs and want to gain a solid 10 lbs of lean muscle mass? it doesn't have to be a quick gain but i would rather i gain it within the next 3 months

I???m not an expert on this, but if you want to gain weight you got to 1. EAT 2.EAT and 3. EAT. Try eating 6 meals a day, high in protein. Well to lose weight you have to burn more cal then you take in right, so I guess to gain weight it would be take in more cal than what you burn. I don???t think you can gain 10 lb of lean muscle without any fat in just 3 months. It does not work that way.

GOOD LUCK :)

Your right, when you gain weight you take a chance at some of it being fat as well. Therefore, what you want to try and do is to gain more weight then you had thought about and then go on a "cutting phase" by doing more cardio and eating less. If you truly gained muscle mass, you should end up weighing more and with just muscle mass. Or, you can go around this and simply keep the carbs and fats low and eat lots of protein, while lifting heavy.

How long have you been training?

It's possible to gain 10lbs in 3 months, but you will need to be extremely disciplined and dedicated to body building. This will include eating every 3 hours with a protein intake of at least 1 gram per pounds of bodyweight. Never missing a meal, never missing or slacking on your work-outs.

It can be done, and if you're fairly new to weight lifting it will be much easier.

dont even worry about what you eat for a while, try eating some of EVERYTHING. if you have start to turn into a whale, cut back as necessary.

This advice is not FDA approved

i've beet training seriously for about 3-4 yrs.

The simple fact is that to gain weight your calories in need to exceed your calories out. there are 3500 calories in a pound so therefore to gain 10 pounds you need to consume 35000 extra calories, or the equivalent of 140 chicken breasts. That being said, don't do that. Find out how many calories you are taking in per day and gently nudge it up, one week increase 200 more, the next 300 more until you are up to 500 calories more per day than you are used to (basically one fairly large meal). This will gain a pound a week. There are no quick fixes if you want to do it right.
