The technique is called myofascial release.

Here is an NASM article with photographs for variations on roller use for various muscle groups.

You can find a foam roller by doing a google search on the terms:

myofacial release and foam roller

Many retail sources sell these rollers. Get one that at least 6" x 36" (long) and has a firm core (the soft foam ones wear down and are useless after a while).

Perfect. This is exactly what I'm looking for.

Thanks!

yes, you want a full round one. the half ones are used for exericses like split squats and single leg stuff...balance training....proprioceptive bull shit.

it will say if it is re-enforced. the more expensive one is the re-enforced one.

I actually prefer the 12" long roller, it is easier to do unilateral work with the shorter ones.

This thread is one of a kind.

I bet you will be getting infractions for this, son.

I thought this was going to be some sort of competition tan preparation thread.

This site is surreal!

I'm getting frustrated.

I do not see a single picture where the foam roller is used on the lower back on the erector spinae. I figured this would be the MOSt important area you could possibly foam roll.

Any ideas?

thoracolumbar fascia, dylan.
