Howard Stern sues Sirius XM

Howard Stern attends the premiere of "Sex and the City 2" at Radio City Music Hall on May 24, 2010 in New York City.

That seems to be the case for shock jock Howard Stern, who is suing Sirius XM Radio for reportedly refusing to give performance-based stock options.

Stern's lawyers say the satellite radio provider offered him a series of stock awards in 2004 if the company beat its subscriber estimates by 2 million or more, according to Reuters. The suit alleges that Sirius XM beat its targets every year from 2006 to 2010.

"Now that Sirius has conquered its chief competitor and acquired more than 20 million subscribers, it has reneged on its commitment to Stern, unilaterally deciding that it has paid him enough," the complaint said.

The radio company said in response that they were "surprised and disappointed" by Stern's legal action, according to Reuters.

This suit comes just months after Stern inked a new five-year contract with Sirius. The previous deal, worth $500 million, ended in December. The terms of the new deal were not disclosed.

Sirius XM, which had roughly 600,000 subscribers when Stern began his satellite radio show in 2005, ended 2010 with 20 million and expects to sign another 1.4 million next year.

This guy is such a fucking loser. I can't believe people still listen to his bullshit.

I agree, I can't listen to Stern for more than two minutes, But Just like Charlie Sheen, What are they going to do? piss off the guy whos bringing in the money? 500 mill for what he does is f-ed up to begin with, but so is $20 a month to listen to the radio.

Been a Sirius subscriber for 4+ years now and have not listened to one full minute of his show.

I think his show is hilarious.

:coffee:

I dislike Stern's show, also. I think stern is a loser, and the amount of fans he has reflects why the human race is pathetic. But, that doesn't change the fact that Sirius made a deal with him. You can't just decide that you paid someone enough, and violate a contract agreement.

I guess we will find out if Sirius did in fact make that deal, and whether it was put in writing and signed. That is the only thing that matters in this situation.

I lost quite a bit of respect for him after reading this article.

Why? I don't care if the guy is a loser or not but if Sirus told him they were going to do something they should do it. They obviously just lied to him, and he got pissed and so would anyone. I don't blame him and I'm kind of surprised everyone seems to think it's okay to rip someone off.

I agree with Vortrit. We all want what was promised to us. Yes his pot is a lot larger then most, but a contract is a contract. I loved his show when it was on TV. Some of his stuff is real dis tasteful, but that is why he is where he is today.

we don't know the details of the contract or if they even had one in regards to the stock options, but seriously Stern is being paid $100 million a year for the next 5 years!

you know what happens to greedy people, they eventually get whats coming to them, not in a good way either.

Really, is that what everyone is, jealous?

No sorry, not me, I make enough money and have no complaints in life. I really don't give two shits what Stern or anyone else makes, my only concern is furthering my own success and happiness.

That's a nice thought, but karma is just wishful thinking. The poor and abused rarely get cosmic satisfaction, and rich pricks usually die rich happy pricks.

I was making a general statement about people who think it is ok to rip off someone just because they are already massively rich. Again, I also dislike Stern, but only because I think his show is retarded. I don't think he is a bad person deserving of being ripped off just for being rich.

You have to realize that the attitude comes from a place of jealousy and envy. If Joe Blow factory worker made $40,000 a year with a promise of an additional $5,000 if productivity hit a certain level, you would be outraged if that company reneged on that promise with the excuse that they feel they have already paid Joe enough already.

It sounds to me like Sirus is the one being pretty greedy. No, we don't know the details and how do you know that it's greed? It may be a simple matter of him expecting Sirus to do what they promised. He may not even care about the money. Nothing pisses me off more than someone promising me they'll do something and not follow through.

Sorry my friend I believe in Karma 100%, what goes around comes around. It's the way that the universe balances itself out IMO. I am not religeous but I am spiritual and people get what they deserve in life.

In my 41 years of life I have seen it over and over, and fortunately with Gena and I we're both very generous and it seems like our success just keeps on coming. :winkfinger:

you may be right, we can't really say without knowing all of the details.

True, but you're not comparing apples to apples here, a blue collar worker barely "middle class" factory worker probably living paycheck to paycheck to support his family, versus someone that is worth a couple of hundred million is not really the same thing.

If you believe in karma, you will probably see it everywhere just like the lunatics that see Jesus in on a piece of french toast. That doesn't make it true.

its one of those things that you cannot prove or disprove, but based on experience it seems to be real, at least to me. there has to be a reason that nothing bad in life ever seems to happen to me, it's like I am blessed and good things just keep coming, so I choose to attriubute this to the way I lead my life, which is with honesty, integrity, hard work and I treat others with the same respect I want to be treated with. take it anyway you want.

Right, they aren't the same people. But the situation is the same. Doesn't that sort of prove that your feelings toward the people dictate how you feel the situation should play out. Justice is suppose to be blind, and the law is suppose to be logical.

Stern may be so rich that to him, money is of no consequence. I honestly don't know what his motives are, but I would be fucking furious if I was lied to by my employer, and would probably walk out, too.

What you call karma, I call positioning. Being a good person will put you in a better statistical bracket to receive good things. So, add luck to your list up there. If you want to see bad things happening to good people, go look at the photos of the earthquake aftermath.

I will agree to disagree, arguing this with me on this subject is like telling a Christian that the bible is wrong.

Karma, there's nothing mystical about it. It's a basic part of life.

The way that people live their lives effects what sort of people and circumstances they attract to themselves.

Also, you don't have to be religious to acknowledge the spiritual part of life anymore than you need to be a scientist to acknowledge the Law of Thermodynamics.

Wow, i've never seen Prince so into a thread. this must have really got under his skin. agreed though, extremely greedy. you reward someone for making you one of the elite richest people in the country by trying to screw them out of more?

btw his TV show used to be on E! i believe.

I just can't think of anyone whos had so much money and so much sucess and really doesn't have any talent. the guy got A HALF BILLION DOLLARS for being perverted and weird. I know a ton of people like that. My next door neighbor has a kid used to pretend he was having sex with my dog. That's worth what, a couple mil to Sirius right?...

Being ruthless has its perks too.
