How's this bread?

I've recently switched from a whole wheat bread to a whole multi-grain bread. What are your thoughts on this bread? Any good?

Main Ingredients: Whole wheat flour, cornmeal, brown rice, wheat bran, oats, sesame seeds, poppy seeds, walnuts, barley flour, hazlenut meal, brown sugar.

Per slice info...
100 Calories
1.5g Fat
0 Cholesterol
140mg Sodium
18g Carbs (4 from from sugar)
4g Protein

Have to see the ingredients in order to know if its good or not.
 
Unbleached Wheat Flour [Flour, Malted Barley Flour, Reduced Iron, Niacin, Thiamin Mononitrate (Vitamin B1), Riboflavin (Vitamin B2), Folic Acid], Buttermilk, Water, Sugar, Yeast, Wheat Bran, Cornmeal, Brown Rice, Oats, Wheat Gluten, Brown Sugar, Pea Fiber, Soybean Oil, Black & White Sesame Seeds, Salt, Calcium Carbonate, Mono- and Diglycerides, Calcium Propionate (Preservative), Poppy Seeds, Sucralose, Soy Lecithin, Citric Acid, Sodium Citrate, Hazelnut Meal, Walnuts.

That's the whole ing. list. So i would go w/ no. Because of Sugar, Brown Sugar.

Try to find something w/ out sugar if possible. It would prolly be ok to eat occasionally, but that's your choice, personally I wouldn't

:shrug: It is ok as far as bread goes... but I wouldn't touch it.... whether or not you want to eat it is up to you...

emma, as I asked in another thread- if you _HAD_ to, which would you rather eat: this (or another multi/whole grain bread) vs. cheerios?

I am not sure where you would find it in the US??

In Australia it is put out by a company called 'Pure Life' and they are called 'essene breads'.

Sprouted essene breads have very few ingredients - and typically only include the sprouted grain (be it rye, spelt, wheat etc), water and a cooking aid (sunflower oil which they use to line the baking tins).

You can get multigrain loafs which also have whole seeds in them too..

If you look online you might find something. eg: just doing a quick search I found:

Just look in health food shops. It is sometimes called 'manna bread' and should not contain any yeast or malt or anything like that...

I don't know what cheerio's are like (they are not found in Australia)...

If I had a choice - I would eat neither...

OR I would eat a good, whole-kernel (not whole-wheat, not 'wholemeal' but a WHOLE KERNEL) essene bread.
 
The Cheerios are worse than the bread.

Mmmm, Yeaaahh... I have been going to the RailWay Market, and even they sell BS breads. They have alot of Organic food, but its like a million dollars.

No, they really arn't that bad. Basic ingredients not a lot of additives but way processed. They are made with whole grain oats and low sugar however, the bread he listed is made of several grains and I think would be better than a single overprocessed grain.
 
thanks for the response, I researched cheerios and found they scored ~80 on the GI and most real whole wheat bread scores ~50

That essene that you spoke of, Emma, is that a brand or ingredient?

Essene bread is a type of bread - it is also called manna bread:
Manna bread

Manna bread, an unleavened (unyeasted) "Essene bread" made from sprouted grains, contains no salt, added fat, or sweeteners. The sprouted grains are simply crushed, formed into loaves, and baked at a low temperature, resulting in a soft, subtly sweet, moist, dense, and coarsly textured "bread" (you don't make sandwiches with Manna bread; it is eaten plain).

Just doing a search on the internet I found this:
You'll find Manna bread at the Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op in the first aisle past the produce section. It is on the top shelf in the refrigerated case immediately on your right when you turn into that aisle.
So if you are neae this shop - it might help?? :shrug:

:shrug: I don't know if any of these could help you.... but you could try.
 
Wow never knew there were so many kinds of bread lol!
Just wondering, is it really that bad to not have pure wholewheat bread?
Cos if the macros are good, all you're missing out on is a little extra vitamins, which I'm sure most ppl on a bulk would already get enough of right?

Spot on... It is not bad at all really, I am just being my usual ultra-anal self. :grin:

Bread - Is it evil? no.
Less than 'ideal' - sure, but life is life and life is not 'ideal'.

In the real word you need to eat how/what you want to eat. As long as you are reaching your goals (and you are healthy) then it does not really matter....

;)
 
I think you could find a better bread, but it's not too bad as far as bread goes. The Baker is a good brand, but kind of bland tasting. I also get Whole Foods brand bread a lot.

Just don't eat this bread with 5 meals per day. I eat bread with at least 1 meal daily, and sometimes 2 if I happen to run low on my other carb sources and get too lazy to go shopping.
