hurt lifting. HELP

I was finishing my routine with lateral raises with dumbells... when going up the final time and twisting my wrist(like i was pouring a glass of wine) i felt a pain... NOW, when i turn my palm up, the outside of my wrist (under the pinky finger) gives me pain.. what could have happend!

Why the hell would you ever do an exercise like that? You do realize what you are doing is actually a TEST for supraspinatus impingement!! You are placing the supraspinatus in a very vulnerable spot underneath the sub-acromial arch....and you are doing it with load to boot!!!!!!


GET SOMEONE TO TEACH YOU HOW TO TRAIN!
 
anyway, it sounds like you strained one of your prontator muscles. rest and ice and get a strength coach.

How much time have you spent working out with weights like this?

You'll know in a few days how serious it is but it obviously seems that you've strained a muscle in your wrist. Of course you need to lay off that muscle group for a spell and see just how bad it is. Alternating ice and heat on your wrist for swelling and pain will relieve some of your discomfort. Just don't be all gung-ho stubborn and make it worse by lifting with that wrist until you know the extent of the damage. Yes that includes squats, bench, shrugs or what ever is going to push or pull that wrist. You should still be able to work your abs, your lower body, and the other arm if you do it sensibly.

If in a few days your not seeing any improvements go see a sports doctor. Your primary care physician will prolly not be qualified to diagnose something like this ... mine wasn't :mad: and that caused me more problems ... so go see someone more qualified from the very start. I'd wait a few days and see how I felt though before I just ran out and spent money on medical fees.
 
Why would i do an excercise like that? Lateral raises?
 
I believe he is talking about the twisting of the wrists you speak of....
 
How long do you guys think this will take to heal?

It was dumb to add the twist at the end, it's not like you're doing Arnold Presses in Lateral Raise format or anything. Keep the wrist steady in the future, rest for a couple days, and maybe have an upper day thursday, a lower day friday, and then take the weekend off in preparation for your following week of training.
 
a month later i still have soreness in my wrist...not bad at all but at times i can aggravate it.. any thoughts on what it could be??? its on the outside right above the wrist ball
 
i havent done the lat raises.. it gets aggravated at random times,
