I lift free weights and i use a oldschool chest pull machine, but i was wondering. I am at the point were i can do 60 push ups touching my nose and I have doen 115 normal ones before. would it be possible to get a very large chest (comparable to soemone who only uses free weights and machines) if I got to the point were i could do hundreds of push ups at a time?
WHat I'm trying to Ask is could I get my chest very large soley with push ups? Its already my best area I was just wondering if I was to get to the point were i could do say 3 and 4 hundred push ups at a time would my chest be as big as someone who lifts alot. The only goal of doing this would just to get bigger and buffer.

I do lift this was just a hypothetical question because I can do push ups places were i dont always have my weights. :hmmm:

Push ups build musclular endurence, heavy weight builds muscle.

very large is a subjective observation. large to one person may not be large to another. you have to take into account height and bodyweight.

since the load on the push-up can not be constantly increased it would provide minimal hypertrophy when compared to using resistance training.

I agree that "very large" would be difficult, but you can of course build a bunch of muscle. Remember, building muscle requires motor neuron recruitment, each time different so it doesnt adapt. You can use different hand positions, different rep schemes, raise or lower your feet, slow the pace, different sets. But "large" would be rough. But it is a decent exercise particularly when you dont have weights.
