Ok this is the deal, I'm weigh 145 and im about 5'9" and im 17. I want to gain some lean mass and I have heard that you need to intake alot of carbs and double your weight in protien each day. I was wondering if you guys could tell me some foods that are packed with carbs but have no sugar nor fat. thanks in advance..

Sweet Potato, Brown Rice, Steel Cut Oats, all kinds of beans such as, lentils, Kidney,Red,Black, Green Vegatables.. Just to name a few.

Why no fat? Fat is essential to growth.....hence EFA

I'm in the same boat as you man. I basically just eat everything I see. I try to eat every two hours. Little meals that is. I just have to eat something every two hours. Aim for 3500 calories a day and you will gain. You do not need to double your weight in protein, 1.5 grames should be fine per pound. You will probably double your weight though. I weigh 164 and I get about 220 grams of protein a day.

You don't need double your weight in protein. At your weight and height, I would suggest something close to 200g would be more than sufficent.

But yes, you do need carbs..... and you DO need fats as well - they are essential for your health and for your muscle gains.

Why don't you want sugars? There are somethings that have sugars in them that are REALLY good for you - they are HIGHLY anabolic and will promote LEAN muscle gains!! Things like skim dairy products like milk and yoghurt!! Fruit is also great - banana's are one of the best things to eat when you workout... Also, things like sweet potato have quiet a bit of sugars in them!

They are natural foods and are very healthy for you - I urge you to reconsider 'excluding' them from your diet... Especially at your age and weight - they would benefit you greatly.

But in terms of good sources of carbs:
  • Grains - Oats (rolled, scotch), barley (rolled, pearled), rye (kibbled, rolled), buckwheat, rice (brown, wild, basmatti), burgul (cracked wheat), quinoa, triticle
  • Legumes - kidney beans, lentils, chana dhal, black beans, chick-peas
  • Yams - these have very little sugar, in comparison to sweet potato
  • Wholegrain products - these are not as good as natural foods, but may be needed for 'hard gainers' so things such as wholegrain pasta, sprouted breads and wraps

But I still suggest you eat fruits and skim dairy. And that you ensure you get enough essential fats from nuts, seeds and fatty fish.

Bump on what Emma said.

You NEED fats. Good fats, that is. Check out the sticky 'guide to..' for more info.

If you want to avoid sugars, then avoid table sugar.

Yea, I eat fruits I wasint clear when I said I avoid sugar. I ment I avoid table sugar. Thanks for all the replys

Hey dAMvN, i know this isn't related, but if you are 17 and only 145lbs you can NOT bench 245. You cannot bench 245. You cannot bench 245.
