I'm enrolled in an Iraqi culture lecture at school, and it's been great so far. Today however, we learned a rather strange occurance that goes down in Iraq when U.S. troops kill a camel, purposely or not.

Say a convoy just got some orders, and is double-timing through the desert. A camel strolls in front of a humvee, and gets leveled. For compensation to the owner, the U.S. pays $20,000.

$20,000. That is a shitload of money, especially considering that a camel in Syria runs you for about $2,500 (according to a student who chimed in on the discussion). Twenty grand.

It sounds like a boatload of money in this situation, especially since the civilian would most likely be poor, but when you think about it, twenty grand to a guy in the middle of the desert is next to useless. No where to spend it. The poor guy would just want a camel instead.

I wonder if it would run the U.S. ten grand if they setup the purchase/transportation of the camel themselves.

Ha and they only give $2500 per civilian.

I bet people push their camels in front of humvee's.

I'm moving to Iraq next week with enough money to buy ten camels. By this time in 2 weeks I'll be rolling to work in a Humvee with Biodiesel conversion and 2 hot Iraqi women I paid $5000 for.

Solid investment.
