That I can't flat bench a little more than 115lb for 3 sets of 8 reps each? I am 18, 5'11, 160lb, 12-13% bf and have started bulking 2 weeks ago. I know that using heavy weights isn't really required for hypertrophy, but I would like to work on getting my strength up.

We all have to start somewhere, man. Nothing bad about it. Post your diet (if u havent already) and your training routine. Diet was what held my gains up most when I first started

It's not bad, assuming you are just starting out. You will show progress, be patient. You didn't say anything about your diet. What's up with that ?

better to go light with correct form, then try to be macho and injure yourself, and like earloer stated we all start from somewhere

A friend of mine started with a similar bench press. In under a year he was hitting 185+ for reps.

Another thing to remember is that the bench press isn't the only lift. I bet you have other lifts that you're better at. Don't forget about squats and deadlifts. I think they are better indicators of overall strength anyway, especially the deadlift.

you said it CP. much better indicators. I can't stand it when someone comes right off the bat with the "how much do you bench" question..

I always tell them "More than you squat" LOL Flamers..

Well I max out one rep at 140... so no, you are ok! :)

It is all about form, but a large majority of it is in your head too.

Thank you all for your comments.

In my diet, I don't consume much junk food and I stay far away from fast foods, soda, and sugars. I just started bulking 2 weeks ago, and I eat probably around 2500+ calories a day. For breakfast and after a workout I always have some oatmeal and a scoop or two of protein powder. Other meals vary, but include beef, chicken, pasta now and then, salad, and sometimes pizza. I try to get 1g of protein per lb of bodyweight but somedays I fall a little short.

I do the bench presses slow and with great form. I workout four times a week, hitting each bodypart once a week and I am currently doing no cardio. Been stuck at this plateau for a while. Thanks for your comments and help everyone.
