Is it posible for a person with an ectomorph body type to become a sucesful body builder? That's the body type I have but I really want to become a body builder. My cousin won Mr. Tennessee twice and he really got me into it, and i was just wondrin if it would work out?

Success is what you make of it, if you mean Mr Olympia then the chances are rather slim I think.

If you enjoy it, then do it - you will be a success in your own mind and there is nothing wrong with not winning titles. I myself dont plan to compete, even though it would be great dicipline and dietary learning in itself.

If your cousin has won on a state level, I am going to guess he has a "secret."

I believe that to excell at anything, you must want it. Maybe you are only asking out of curiosity but what if someone were to say no you will not be as successfull as someone else? Would you say fine, screw it? Or would you keep doing it because its what you love doing? Persistence is the key with becoming good at anything, as well as the will to learn from yourself and others along the way :thumb:

:thumb: Excellent advice Mudge! Wish more people would share that philosophy in today's world.

In my everyday life I am surrounded by people that always want everything handed to them without the concept of the work it takes to reach goals. They don't seem the understand the satisfaction that follows with gaining and accomplishing goals on their own.

Sweep - go for it man! If you love doing it that's even better - it will make reaching your goals that much more victorious and fulfilling.

The only thing I can say is if thinking about it TOO MUCH floods your brain, then sometimes you need a break from things. This might be more true for someone like me who has a list of interests that could fill a phone book (well, not really), but it is very true that persistence is important.

I had a 6 week layoff awhile back and after 2 months I'm still not quite 100% back, small hiccups can really affect long term results.

This is also true for the brain, the more active your brain is, the better you will be able to retain and learn things - when the brain sits, it "atrophies" just like a muscle (in a virtual sense of course!). :)

I have not had a training partner in over a year, and its message boards that keep me going. This IMO is one place to be where you are not "wasting your time" on the internet.

Thanks for the advice guys, but you seem to have missed the point. What I mean was is it humanly posibly for someone with my body type to develope such large muscles?

If you mean to win on a state level as a heavyweight, IMO you wont do it without steroids. I think its a harsh reality, you can believe it or not, but like I said, I think your cousin has a secret.

Depending on your relationship with him he may be honest about it. If you are of the mind that steroids are a big bad evil thing and that I'm saying your cousin is a loser, well thats not at all what I'm saying, so I hope thats not the case. Just like MANY drugs, there are lots of lies and misconceptions about steroids, at best what you think you may know are worst case scenarios. I have even heard that steroids give you bad breath which I find amusing as well as stupid.

Are you 14 years old? You dont have your birthday listed. Obviously at such an age even thinking about it would be the wrong thing to do, I can tell you I knew someone who used around that age and he ended up very, very short. I would think that him being 30 or 31 by now, that he probably regrets it, but who knows. When you first start out and when you are young, you should make great gains for awhile. When I was in high school adding 5-10 pounds on your bench a week was not abnormal at all.

No matter drugs or not though, one thing is for sure, diet is going to be neccessary to carry somewhat large amounts of muscle. Your meat (protein) cannot be sustained without, protein.

Are there diferent classes like heavweight and such? I'm not very informed on that type of thing. And yes I'm 14, and I'm going to talk to my cousin about body building next time I see him, and maybe he will help me out a bit.

Should be weight classes yes, at the nationals also, if your tall though, forget weight classes - they aren't your friend. Tall = heavyweight or bust.

Muscle Gelz Transdermals
IronMag Labs Prohormones
Is Arnold really an ectomorph? I never knew that. And why heavyweight or bust?

Because there is no way a 6 foot person can compete in a group of 5'6"-5'9" guys in a 205 pound weight class, and win - on the state level. I have been to a San Jose Invitational (I believe thats what it was) years ago and I dont recall seeing any slackers, thats only city level.

There have been many skinny guys or short guys, who have done the best with weights because something drives them to break out of that, I was never very large myself and I'm not neccessarily large today but probably your cousins standards, but I've come a long way with a little hard work over the last couple years.

I can point out a guy who started out at 137 pounds and who is now just barely under 300, it takes a damn lot of eating, and hard training. I dont agree with all his theories but the people he trains are doing well, so what can I say to a guy who outweighs me by 60 pounds and is turning out winners.
