Lose fat and gain muscle simutaneously without roids? I know this is a stupid n00b question that I should know by now after posting 2932838 posts, but I'm retarded. I thought it was possible under optimum circumstances?
 
Yes. Although, it becomes increasingly difficult the more advanced you get.

You mean how do you do it? It depends on the person. What are you stats and body fat?
 
Okay, I have the same question so I will post here and you can tell me how dumb I am for trying to build muscle when I have so much fat to loose. My routine is pretty basic, but I do not think I am advanced enough to have to mix it up too much since I am still getting a really good burn.

6' 3" 255lbs 26% BF

Currently:
Cardio 3x per week 30 minutes (bike or orbital jogger)
Lifting 2x per week for 1 - 1.5hr

Routine - Upper body:
Bench 4 sets 10, 8 , 6, to fail with increasing weight
Incline Bench (same)
Wide Bench (same)
Dumbbell Press 4 sets of 8, mixed with dumbbell curl during rest
Triceps pulldown 4 sets 10, 8 , 6, to fail with increasing weight
Bent over dumbbell row (whatever I have left)

Routine - Lower body:
Squat 4 sets 10, 8 , 6, to fail with increasing weight
Leg Press (same)
Dumbbell Lunges (4x 8 with stable weight)
Leg lifts 4 sets 10, 8, 6, to fail with increasing weight
Leg curls (same)
Calf raises 4 sets of 12

Diet:
Breakfast - Prot. Shake (using 2 scoops, 300 cal)
Snack - fruit
Lunch - Chicken or fish and veggies (some starchy vegis)
Snack - fruit
Dinner - More meat and mixed veggies or prot shake

Bench 1RM ~290lbs

Woah. You are trying to gain muscle on that diet? What are your cals like 2000?

You need protein for both snacks, and you need a carb for breakfast, as well as the shake.

That is a really shitty diet


you need 6 meals a day..with a calorie breakdown something like this 400 cal per meal.....40 prot...30 carb...14 fat....
every meal.
 
Heh... Thanks for validating that. The title of the thread was "Is it possible" (not my thread, just the one I stole). The diet is to try and drop 40 lbs of fat, the workouts right now are to try to keep from cannibalizing the muscle I have. Based on your answers I am going to go with the conventional wisdom of "No" you can't do it, since there is no way I am going to drop 40 lbs eating 2500 - 3000 calories a day. Maybe I should up the cardio and reduce the lifting until I get closer to my goal weight.

Oh, and yeah, I do realize this is Iron Mag, not Morbidly Obese mag. :P
