I remember in highschool we always used to stretch before doing anything. However, is stretching really that important? Do you guys stretch before working out, while working out, or after working out? What does stretching really do for you?

Many will say stretching before is bad, and that is the school of though that I agree with from my own reading. Afterwards though, highly highly recommended for many reasons. I will sometimes stretch in the middle of working out.

At least one study showed it reduced performance, and it can cause injury.

I do however stretch my hamstrings in the mornings frequently, but not before workouts. I also dont do severe stretching unless its post workout, and many people believe that hardcore stretching is one important key to success in size and strength, which I found a little surprising myself.

I used to be able to do full splits in high school and lost that ability years ago, which is part of what I'm trying to get back.

I usually stretch a body part after i'm finished working it out (example, stretch chest before proceeding to triceps; after triceps, stretch triceps). The exception to this is leg day. I always do a good 10 minute cardio warmup followed by a good leg stretch before squats, otherwise I tend to have various pains during/after squats. of course, if you don't go all the way down... you might as well skimp on the stretching too...

Generally I have my athletes warm up before performing any athletic activity. We have what we call a "dynamic stretch" before every football paractice. All this consists of is high knees, Butt kicks, Knee Drives etc... I believe that injuries occure when an athlete is not properly warmed up rather than not being flexible. So I always ensure that the muscle being taxed has a good blood flow before starting anything.

extreme stretching is important in size, strength, and recovery. there is many articles on fascia stretching and also stretching induces hypertrophy. extreme stretches ARE THE SHI!T imo. i started doing them a couple of weeks ago and they are awesome. i do it for all bodyparts and most painful and excruciating is the legs.

I'm following the dogg crapp training and you stretch after ea body part worked.
Example today is Chest, Shoulders, Tri's, Back width and back thickness.
So after chest is worked you stretch the chest. After shoulders is worked you stretch the shoulders and ect.

So yes stretching is very important as it aslo helps your recovery allowing some people to train more often.

Wait just a moment. People are on here all the time saying that they are doing arnolds routine or giving there routine which they think is the best or who ever elses they wants training. If they hound me don't you think that is my business or are you my personal Sec who has to reply to them. Look this is a posting forum for routines and other exercises and if you don't want to here what routine i'm doing then fine, just don't read it. Other then that I think it's none of your fucking business.

The main benefit of stretching appears to be decreased chance of injury, which is enough for me. Obviously, increased flexibility is another advantage, which can translate into a more full range of motion during strength training exercises. Also, stretching can help reduce the effects of DOMS.

DC training also believes in extreme stretching for the purpose of stretching muscle fascia. He firmly believes this will aid in hypertrophy, although I am a bit skeptical. I'm not totally discounting the idea, but I just don't really know enough about it to take it in as fact just yet.

I only stretch after a workout, or when I feel my muscles are sufficiently warmed up. An example would be at the end of my work day (I work a physically intensive job). Stretching cold muscles can potentially lead to injury. As well, some claim that stretching before lifting results in decreased performance/strength, although I used to stretch before my workouts and noticed no difference once I switched to stretching afterward.

2) I'm not one of his employee's and he doesn't pay me.
3) I got all my info off of the internet doing searches and not from any of his forums.
4) I have never talked to the guy
5) Please tell me why I should give a good shit whether he want's someone talking about his training???????

What kind of logic is that? This is not a forum for newbies, this is a forum for ALL LEVELS.

Anyone here could say the same thing about your extreme stretching comment.

because dante had asked that his info would not be posted elsewhere.

It's way late for that. All you need to do is hit up Google to find half a dozen other forums with information about his program.
