i was wondering if its possible for someone stocky like an endomourph if they bust their ass in the gym and with cardio and DIET... can they eventually be able too see some of their abs and if so whats some good ab excercises to do and how often should you do them ? ........a few years ago a guy at the gym use to be fat and he started doing the treadmill everyday and he didnt even lift weights for the first few months because he just wanted to concentrate on cardio and he said he only ate like 20 fat grams of food aday which i dunno if thats true or not but he lost alotta weight and before he would start cardio he would do his abs and he bought a stop watch and he would lay on the floor and do sit ups for 3 minutes straight and then he would do side bends on each side 3 minutes straight but he did lose his fat and was able to see his abs and i recently seen him the other day and its been a few years and hes kept the weight off.. anyways someone please give me some info on a good program for abs and let me know if its possible

Treat your abs like every other muscle group. Basic crunches are cool but there are several exercises you can experiment with. I do a plethora of ab exercises just so I don't get bored. With that being said, minimal ab work is needed. I would get to know squats and deadlifts as these help your body want to hold onto muscle bodywide, and also helps build your core.

More importantly you don't need cardio to lose weight and you'll see it on this forum a million times. However, yes it is a good choice for overall health. I wouldn't "concentrate" on cardio. Thats what people do that don't know any better. Take that time and concentrate on keeping track of your weight, total calories, fat grams, carbs, and protein for every day for say a week, eating what you consider your usual and attainable meals. This way you know how many calories youre taking in. You want to realize or get close to your maintenance caloric intake, or what you need to keep from gaining or losing. Once you have an idea of what that is you just create a deficit by eating say 500 calories less a day. Instead of blindly trying to create that deficit by killing yourself and your nervous system by doing cardio all the time. People do hours of cardio because they don't want to count calories or they watch too much biggest loser.

You don't lose weight at the gym, you don't gain muscle in the gym. You lose weight by eating less than you need, period.

Go to the nutrition forum and read the stickies up top. Good luck.

Merkaba said it all, good post :thumb:

Even the Biggest Loser tells you to eat. I must admit that show motivated me to get back into shape. I lost 50 lbs just over 5 months and I didn't starve myself. I just stayed away from empty calories and ran 30 minutes 4 to 5 days a week for the first few months. Now I only run twice a week and work out twice a week to maintain my weight and I can eat what I want (you just can't pig out everyday). Jerry Rice and Steve Young are on Biggest Loser and they maintain there fitness by just doing old football drills. You can lose weight by not eating, but you have to work at definition.

Great. Motivation is found in many sources. And never did I say anything about the Biggest Loser telling someon not to eat.

Its a t.v. show. Excitement equals ratings equal ads equals money. Did you have a friggin' doctor standing by like they do?

Its motivation to many because they don't know any better. Weight training is a different animal than losing weight. If someone wants to lose weight, you create a deficit and thats pretty much it. You don't "not eat", you just a decent amount less than you need. Definition is still a function mostly of diet. You're not going to have much definition if you don't hold on to lean body mass. Of course thats usually easier for a male.

My point is that a show is teaching people to kill them goddam selves in the process. If you want to lose 30 lbs in a month then go have at it. If you end up in the hospital or with a pulled ham like that one guy then be my guess.

True. The show is extreme and no one on their own would ever lose that kind of weight or be able to weight train that rigorously. However, there is a lot of useful info that I used to help get me over the initial hump, though you are correct; it's a TV show and only scratches the surface on what you really need to do, let alone put you in the hospital if you tried to lose that much weight that fast at home.
