I think western society Christians have grown out of it. As I have said before the middle east is a pre enlightenment society, and it doesn't matter if they are Christian or Muslim.

Christian honor killings in the middle east are common. We are dealing with a cultural issue, not a religious one.

In the Middle East, gays get murdered by the authorities. In the USA, we have an armed police force to protect the rights of animals. Are we perfect? No. Can we do better? Sure. But we're leagues beyond the Middle East.

Or, perhaps you mean false illusion of moral equivilency brought on through a belief in cultural reletavism. How do you explain population growth and inequality of natural resources as justification for the execution of gays and the treating of women as 2nd class citizens? It may not be based entirely in religion, but there is a fundamental difference in cultural values. They are still living in a Pre-Renaissance society. Our culture is not only different from their's. It's better and superior on many many levels.

there are pro's and con's to all of the different cultures on the planet. religion and other biases change the way people perceive things today and in the future, genetics and other environmental factors are always a factor.. I would not go as far as to use the labels of our society being superior but we are definitely more technologically advanced.

truly intelligent societies do not constantly cause problems that need solving and there have not been many of these in world history. they also seem to not last long for one reason or another.

but we are all just pawns being used at the expense of the other.

I think it's best to leave those things to the discretion of the trial judge, which is exactly what is happening in this case.
