I got myself a jump rope the other day and its a hard workout to say the least. its also pretty fun and you can pretend your Rocky with Eye of the Tiger blaring in your ears :D

just throwing this out there as there are many benefits to jumping rope such as improved balance, coordination, agility, aerobic and anaerobic conditioning (depending on how you set up your training) and probably a host of others that my hung over self cannot think of.

i did a quick search on google and found this website, whoever this buddy lee guy is he seems to know his shit and outlines some nice programs as well as explaining the benefits, showing how to implement the rope into a training program. although the site is more geared towards sports specific training i'm sure bodybuilders could adapt it their needs.

jump rope is great. intervals of like 10-20sec (or 20-30 turns of the rope) with short rest are awesome for power endurance (like doing quick feet) and longer intervals are great for cardio benefits.

i would not really use a jump rope program to increase my vertical, IMO there are more optimum ways to increase one's vertical.

although that website that i posted above did mention something like power jumps where you kind of jump higher and more explosively and try to make the rope spin around twice before you land but that i don't know how well that will translate to increasing one's vertical. so once again i wanna say that no, a jump rope is great for many things but increasing one's vertical is probably not one of them.
 
I throw jump rope in all the time during my circuits. I love it. I have some of my clients jump rope sometimes too.

Actually I'd love to jump rope but I'm too uncoordinated and out of shape!
 
Jumping rope is just great, i feel as though its way overlooked by many people even though its a fun, inexpensive way to train.

Rocco, i suck at it too but just like anything else you get better with time. Hell i've only gotten about 105 consecutive rope spins before messing it up and that was once, my average is about 30 lol. i have no coordination what so ever but i'm working on it.

It really helps you feel 'lighter on your toes'
