hey peeps, i got a jumping rope from my friend like 2 hours ago, it was one of those digital ones that you can put in your weight, time, how many times you jump and how many calories you burn............

so i went ahead and put my weight in (204) and dit 637 jumps in a little under 7 minutes it says ther that i burned 107 calories!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what the fuck "? could that be?
i mean i am tired now and i feel the burn but that many calories from that, i could do them all day long !!! is there any wise people in here that know more ?

You input the weight to calculate your BMR. I'd half the amount it says you burned to figure out how many calories you actually burned doing the activity, as your BMR is what you would burn while at rest.

im sorry for bein an idiot but i have no clue about this particulatr activity and i have no clue what yoiu just said, so i should just cut whatever calories it say in half so if it says i burned 800 calories i should just asume that it was 400 ?

As far as I am aware, when you input your weight and such into a machine, it calculates how many calories you should burn at rest. Let's assume that a person burns 150 calories in an hour while maintaining normal body functions. That means if a machine tells you that you burned 500 calories in an hour, you really burned 350.

Or so the story goes.

I have the exact same skipping rope, there junk. You didn't actually jump 637 times, for every time you jump it actually puts 2-3 jumps on it, or at least mine does. I jump 250 times then do these weird walking in place thingy's for a minute (I put the skipping rope down on my bed) then I jump for 250 more and then the walk thingys etc. I do 4 sets of this and by the time I'm finished it says I've jumped anywhere from 1500-2100 jumps, which means the calorie burner thing is messed up too. The only way you'll know for sure how many jumps you did is to count them yourself and as for the calorie's you burn, for about 150 pound person burns 12 calories every minute whenhe skips 120 time per minute.

Also if you choose to skip don't forget to stretch out your calves berfore and after skipping. When I first started skipping my calves hurt so bad and were so tight I could barely walk, it should take about a week for them to get use to it.

yeah you tell me now !! when its to late my calves are killing me, hehehe thank you for telling me, im not taking it too serious tho jumping is just for fun when im bored, my latest favorite cardio is boxing in my garage i do half hour of intense boxing and it feels good i get very tierd....

lol I know skippigns brutul on the calves, I couldn't work them out for a week.I always wanted to try kick boxing so my mom got me a punching bag for xmas, only problem was that she was too lazy to go buy some sand to fill it up, so she ended up returning it...O well my eliptical trainer/skipping rope is fine for me :D

so if i would jog and jump rope at the same time, *you know like thay do in the movies) would i do a double workout or would i just be jogging, you know what i mean ??????? would i burn more calories doing thet then just jogging?

probably, cause your getting more range of movement with your body. You could try skipping where you jump forward then jump backward, then forward etc. or you could try side to side. which ever one cause your getting more of a range of movement through your body, just like when your jogging depending on how fast and how high you swing your arms you can burn an extra 20-30% of calories.

Personally, I dunno how to jump rope like they do on TV... I'm kinda shy to jump rope in a gym coz I think I jump rope like a girl... you know, I can't bounce only on my toes... my whole lower leg goes up... sheesh...

dpeaking from a boxing perspective, jumping rope is great cardio. You might want to try doing rounds ... skip for 2-3 minutes, rest for 30 secs-1 minute.

I'm not familiar with the rope you got, but you might want to try a weighted jump rope. You certainly won't be able to go all day at first. :D You'll find the your forearms get a get workout as well.

lol thats why I workout at home, I couldn4't stand going to a gym, I'd have to noone to go with, and I just like being alone with noone watchign me when I workout.

lol if I tried a weighted rope I'd probably kill myself...I have just BARELY enough room, in my room to jump rope, and even then I take off little scraps of paint from my roof/the rope hit things then comes back and whips me in the arms/face. I usually have I good couple of red lines on my arms and face when I'm done.

I say don't worry about how many calories you are burning. It's moot unless you are taking the time to figure out the exact number of calories you burn each day and adjusting your diet accordingly.

Personally my favorite workout at the gym is to take that thing that was popular around 10 years ago called Skip-It and attach it to my ankle and do some serious skipping. I burn lots of calories and the chicks dig it. My personal record is 55 skips in a row :D

Tom_B: You really should try it because the results are fabulous!

lol I got no idea what a "skip-it" is, I was only 5, 10 years ago :p

Ya my calves are getting great results from the type of skipping I'm already doing so i can wait to try out that new program :D

Keep us updated on your results.
