Hey all, i was just wondering if anyone else has tried these wonderful things.
They are high in protein and extremely low in fat. As a bonus, they also taste great too!! Oh yeah, like about a 1/3 of the price of skinless chicken breasts.

Im not sure if you guys in the states could get a hold of them, but if you get a chance, I would reccommend that you at least try it sometime.

anyways, i had some marinated kebab skewers for tea, served with a bed of brown rice, and some homemade tomato salsa.

keep up the good work all

Nope never did, don't know where to buy kangaroo. I don't know where in the US you can find it. Not sure if I even want to try it.

Can you eat me?

send some out my way and ill be able to tell you, kangaroo isnt exactly plentiful out here in america.

Is there a place to get that kangaroo meat in the US. Id be interesting in trying it out.

:thumb: Kangaroo is a wonderful meat! As you said - It is, like all meats, high in protein (about 23g per 100g raw meat), is low in fat (about 1g per 100g) and v. low in saturated fats (about 0.4g per 100g) and has a higher omega-3 ratio in the fats it does have...

If you can get some I would certainly recommend you use it as a protein source! :D

do aborigines eat them?
LOL - way to think in stereotypes. ;)

Some will, others do not. It depends on where they are living and what they enjoy eating.

A lot of the more remote communities do eat more traditional foods than those in the city/urban environment and they will certainly eat more kangaroo than others... and there are also people in the city who look specifically for kangaroo in food stores because it is such a good meat and because it is a traditional food....

It also depends on their background and the dreaming or rules of their particular mob/family group. Some groups will not eat kangaroo, while others will.

But the same can be said for the rest of the people in the community - of those who eat red meat, some choose to eat kangaroo (the smart ones ;) ) whilst others prefere beef.

for me a lot has to do with the price.. I live in darwin so a lot of things are really expensive.. Chicken breast about $12 a kilo, red meat anywhere from $12-$30 a kilo.. The roo fillets are about $5-$7 and are packed in cryovac. Also when cooked well, usually after a marinate, the meat is almost buttery it is so tender...

Dont get me wrong, this is not my only, or main protein source. I mostly eat tuna in springwater, also due to costs, this is about 67c a can. But sometimes for evening meals with family or friends, i want something warm instead of just a tin of cold tuna and a fork..

Anyways, I love it.. And im not aboriginal.. i think the aboriginals are more concerned with drinking, smoking, petrol sniffing then eating anything whatsoever..

wow man way to get racist...while i dont agree with your stereotype, in many cases its pretty true unfortunately.

yeah ive had kangaroo before, very nice. i also love crocodile meat, that shit is tasty.

i apologise if anyone thinks i am racist. Living in such a multi-cultural place as darwin, one is exposed to many many different cultures. It is sad, because the aboriginals that hang around in the town are the ones who are ousted from the proper functioning tribes. This is why the impression that you get from the aboriginals is negative... I have been to Brissy also and there is nothing like here in terms of disgrace from the aboriginals. I have nothing against them personally, but if you come to darwin, then i guarantee that you would see on a daily basis those acts that I described..

Anyways, what i am trying to say is that i am sorry if i offended anyone by my views...

Keep up the hard work all!

I agree on the croc stuff! awsome.. Up here there is some stuff that tourists cannot imagine.. Croc burgers, Barra burgers, Emu, Roo, Buffalo. I love it all.

Actually last night I was out and i needed some protein, the only place was the servo, and they had usual servo fare as in pies, sausage rolls, microwave pizza etc... I got 2 bags of NT beef jerky.. $3.15 a bag and each bag 17.7g Protein, 1.5g fat, and only a mild 376mg sodium.. Was tasty shit too!!

I could never eat kangaroo! They are too cute lol!

I havent tried kangaroo... sounds like something I would like. BUT, I LOVE ostrich meat! I used to get these ostrich beef jerky sticks all the time in the mail, they taste AMAZING.
