My daughter, who is in the 7th grade, came home yesterday and told me her health teacher was talking about creatine, how bad it is, and that it is a steroid.
Can any of you provide me evidence that this is false, preferable in the form of a research study? This would be greatly appreciated, and will provide me the opportunity to go ask the principal and teacher why they our teaching our children things based on speculation, not facts.

Considering the body produces creatine naturally, that teachers statement is hilarious.

The body produces test naturally too...I don't agree with the steroid label for creatine.

The teacher is a Muppet (yes the Jim Henson variety),
I would like to direct your attantion directly at the link submitted by 'I are baboon' and specifically the 'More Articles on Creatine from Absolute Creatine, LLC' section at the bottom. Point 10 (relating to Creatine and its' legality) contains reference to the legality of Creatine supplementation in American sports and the Olympics, of which all consider it legal. The same cannot be said for many steroidal compounds and all Anabolic Steroidal compounds - they have all been banned.
Another little problem with the Creatine = Steroid problem is that red meat and fish naturally contain creatine.
I borrowed the following as an excerpt from Bodybuilding.Com "Unlike steroids or drugs, creatine is 100% natural and occurs naturally in many foods; therefore, it can never be banned from any sports or international competitions (unless they banned eating meat). Many foods especially herring, salmon, tuna, and beef contain some creatine."
I would ask the teacher to provide the source of the information she has passed on to your daughter and her class, and then let the FDA know that same source...because that statement could not possibly have been approved by them!
Hope it helps...

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the FDA would be interested since they've categorized Creatine as a food. You can buy it in the grocery store.

Pathetic...do a search on creatine and you should find tons of research to show this is one IGNORANT human being!
