I was curious if any of you were familiar with knee problems. I knelt down today to do push ups and when I got back up my leg would'nt straighten. Then after about two hours it popped and then was fine. Well about 1/2 hour ago it went out again. Any ideas? I have never seen an ortho about my knees but can hear the cartilage every time I bend them. I'm curious if you all have any similar problems.

When I was a little kid, my knee used to pop out of joint all the time - it hurt like hell too. My orthopedic guy said my patella was detached and I could wait to see if I'd outgrow it or have surgery. I waited - and I think it's ok. It still hurts sometimes like after skiing but it doesn't dislocate.

I would have it checked! (and stay off it for a bit) - and ice for the first 24 hours!

I would get that check. The knee joint works like a hinge. Something is causing the hinge to not move through its full range of motion. When I stand up too long my knees also do the same thing, to a point. Not as bad as yours.

Also, how old are you and do you do a lot of workouts that are hard on the knees, ie: running? Running too much can lead to problems with your knees and hips. I would get it check just to be sure. You don't want to be 50 and not be able to stretch your legs out.

Everyday is a good day, when you are not six feet under.

Thanks guys. I called the dr. He can't see me for a week and a half. It has happened again already today. Now I need to figure out what I should take out of my routine, but I don't want to fall behind on my progress. Running may not be a good idea. Squats are out. I'm only 35 yrs.old so this is really a bummer... I have gotten so addicted to working out! I love squats. What's a good replacement for squats?!

If you are seriously concerned and can't wait a week and a half, you could always go to the emergency room if you think it's that bad.

As far as replacement exercises go, you could do leg presses, hack squats, or lunges.

Sorry about your knee.

I've had many problems with my knee, but the worst time was when I couldn't straighten it like you. I don't know if it was cramps in my knee or what, but whenever I would try to straighten it, a really sharp pain would hit me right on my knee. I don't know how it stopped, but I just tried to walk it off, even though it hurt, I got used to the pain, and the next day it was gone. Hopfully I won't have that problem again because it hurts!

I've been through exactly what your going through and I tried to just deal with it but I wound up receiving surgery in both knees (just scopes) in which the meniscus was torn so they had to shave it off. Even to this day, if I try to run too far or sit with my legs crossed my legs will get stuck in a bent position (knee out of joint) until I can kick really hard and get it back into place. I agree that you should try a knee brace and stop anything that could cause further pain.

Go the extra mile. It makes your boss look like an incompetent slacker.

Somehow I don't think the emergency room would be paid for my insurance (unless your knee actually unhinged and fell off

Try calling another Doctor - usually, I go to a group so there is always SOMEONE that can see me!
