LASEK Eye Surgery

Has anyone here had lasek surgery? I am having it done on August 18th. I went to my appointment last night to consult with my doctor and he described the pros and cons between Lasik and Lasek. After thinking it over, i decided to go with lasek because there is less risk than lasik.

Just to let you know, the main difference Between LASIK and LASEK is thickness of the flap which includes corneal stroma tissue in LASIK and only epithelial tissue in LASEK. Also, it takes about 1-2 weeks to recover from Lasek as opposed to 1-2 days from Lasik. But being safe than sorry is more important to me.

Do you remember what she had to do after surgery? Like, was she able to do anything or did she wear a protective bandage? Complain of any pain or discomfort? How long did it take for her to heal and regain her eyesight?

I don't know about Lasek or Lasik, but I can poke you in the eye with a stick.

Sorry man, but I have no firsthand experience. You could try Wikipedia. Lasik and Lasek.

I plan on getting that done within the next year or so.

I know several people who had Lasik, they never complained except for saying their eyeball itched a little...they all got vicodin for the pain and had to wear sunglasses for a couple of days.....The risks are very minimal really....

My eyes itched like a mofo right after for a couple of hours, the next day my vision was 20/30, a week later it was 20/20 with both, 20/20 in my left, and 20/25 in my right. 2 weeks in I was perfect with both eyes, that is from being 20/260 prior. It was 4 weeks until I was able to open my eyes under water, but who gives a shit about that in October?

Overall, well worth the $3500 I paid, plus all appointments for a year are free. I would have paid double. I can also opt for the wavefront for an extra $500 an eye, but my vision is fine the way it is.

What is "wavefront"?

Regular Lasik is where they just cut the lens like a contact would be cut, in wavefront they make a digital corneal map and make the cut individual to your personal needs.

Ya, but that's lasik which is where they cut open the flap and there is more risk involved. However, recovery is 2-3 days. I am doing lasek which is less risk but it's a 1-2 week recovery.

They both involve cutting it's just the thickness of what is cut thats different...I think the chances of a mistake would be the same, but the chances are very slim, you'd have more of a chance dying in a car accident on your way home I think...

I watched some videos of the actual surgery on youtube. Some of them were pretty cool but others were just hard to watch. I will probably still get it but it freaks me out.
