So in january 2003, i had a inguinal hernia repaired in my right groin area, and at age 20, i wasnt too happy about it as you can imagine.

Had laproscopic surgery (keyhole) to repair it and went on my way and recovered in about 2 weeks. Unfortunately, the whole process actually relaxed my abs completely, and due to the pain they stayed that way for a while. I gained some slightly puppy fat over my lower abs, and my strength in that area diminished completely.

Fast forward to september 2004. I still have a thin layer of baby fat on my abs, and they are still weak as anything compared to pre-operation. I decide im going to start training again for hockey, and the lifting commences!

Over the past few days ive felt a slight ache where my hernia was repaired, and i have taken this week off to see if it feels better, if not, its back to the surgeon to have it checked again.

Anyone else have any experiences with hernias pre and post - op? Im interested to see if people have made full recoverys and gone on to lift heavy, without injuring themselves again. Im afraid ill never be able to get to the weight i want if this thing keeps bugging me. DEstined to be skinny!

I've had 3 hernias and I lift much more than I did before. You'll get there :)

wow 3 of them? thats insane .. what were you downtimes and do you ever feel any pain or discomfort in the area?

My downtime for the first inguinal was a little over a month because there were complications. I coulda started lifting again after the month but I was depressed. 3 years later I started working out again and had no complications with that hernia. Then I had umbilical hernia surgery not this past spring but the one before. I was walking around w/in a few days and lifting normal exactly 4 weeks after. Again, no pain or problems with it. I now have another inguinal hernia to be repaired but it's not bothering me too much right now and isn't likely to strangulate anytime soon so I'm not rushing into surgery over it yet.

Sometimes if they don't cut the nerve in the area and just sew it up, you will have pain like your describing when your on your feet alot or working that area. You'll need a shot of cortisone to stop the inflammation in the area sometimes.

I'm still paying off my first one. The second was free since I worked in the ER.

You will meet your goals. I have had two children. one was through C-section. I also had another surgery through my belly button....It just takes some time. I am not sure how much time but I know it is possible!:thumb:

Guess Ill have to stop knocking the healtcare system over here.

i dont have private healthcare, otherwise it wouldnt have cost that much...

Ah you are in Australia. "over here" is sweden. Would cost a maximum of aprox. $ 15 per day. Unless you want cosmetic surgery. I dont know how mant days you are there but Im guessing like 3 days?
