Hi everyone,

In the last year I have lost over fifty lbs. with just choosing better food and exercising. Now I want to tone up, lose fat and gain muscle. First of all I'm a vegetarian and second of all I'm female. So far I have started adding protein shakes to my diet and eating 5-6 meals a day. I was wondering what other supplements I should add, if any, and what else I can do for my diet to help tone up.

A regular day menu:

1st meal: glass of milk, 5-6 egg white scrambles with cheese and some type of fruit or vegetable
2nd meal: protein shake
3rd meal: salad, veggie burger, beans
4th meal: protein shake
5th meal: garden burger, veggies and fruit
6th meal: depends on how much protein and other things i still need to get in

the protein shakes are whey protein, is that sufficient or should I try something else.

sorry for this being so long, but i know you can help. thank you :)

If you are going to continue to lose weight you need to refine your diet. Here are a couple of things to think about. Fruit is nothing more than fructose. Sugar. So cut down to one or two pieces a week. Since you are a vegetarian you are missing out on complete proteins unless you eat a lot of eggs and drink a lot of milk. You need to start combining incomplete proteins with the right counter parts to make complete proteins. Example: beans are an incomplete protein (lacking all of the essential amino acids) and so are green leafy veggies. BUT, if you eat them together they complement each other and create a complete protein. So start eating veggies with with all your non dairy product meals. Most veggie burgers are very high in fat and combined with the processed buns are a poor diet food. Try to find a replacement or cut back on the amount you eat weekly. I am also wondering what your protein shakes are made with? I would stick with l/f or n/f milk and protein powder only. If you didn't keep a nutrition log for the first 50 pounds, now is a good time to start one. It might be a little harder to lose weight this time around but we will get you there. I'm sorry but I didn't see anything posted regarding working out or cardio?? Hope you find something usefull above.
I wish you luck

actually all my veggie burgers have between 1-3 grams of fat, plus i dont eat bread. i just eat the patty by itself

I make my protein shakes with water... sometimes i add 1 tbsp. of peanut butter. and as for working out.. i do a m-w-f split and do cardio on the other days fr 60 mins..

I'll comend you on the vegitarian thing . There is no way i could ever do that , ecspecially you being from Texas ( beef capital of the US ) . It doesn't sound like you are a total vegitarian though , milk and cheese and eggs all being animal products . I bet if yo type in vegitarian into your search engine you can find lots of web sites with many ideas on staying healthy and fit with that lifestyle . Why vegitarian ? Just curious .

well there are several types of vegetarians.. I am a lacto ovo vegetarian which means i include dairy , but nothing else.
I have been a vegetarian for over 8 years and I choose to be for several reasons, ie. health, animal cruelty, and i never have been able to eat ne kind of meat besides chicken my whole life so it really isnt a big deal.

OK i can respect that . Good for you . I've tried to do it but could not . My last girlfriend was a Vegan and quite serious about it . We'd go to her resturaunts and excuse me but every thing tasted like crap . I tried to have an open mind to it but i'm a carnivour . I don't promote cruelty to animals or anything but i believe we were meant to eat anything we could . Like i said it's a hard lifestyle and i say more power to you .

Yah very true.. normally the restaurants I goto .. even my favorite one, has options for carnivores. Vegan would be a little too hard being that I love to workout and build muscle. I don't push my lifestyle on anyone, so hey if you want to chow down on a steak go for it, just dont exxpect me to sit and watch (i get physically sick) specially at the grocery store.

Muscle Gelz Transdermals
IronMag Labs Prohormones
I didn't mean anything negative by my comments . It's a healthy choice and i wouldn't expect you to watch me eat . I respect the lifestyle just like i'd expect someone to respect mine .
If you don't mind me asking , I've got family in Katy TX , you know of it ?
Are there a lot of vegitarian places to shop and eat at around you ?

oh i know you didnt mean ne thing negative I was just saying. As for kkaty yah its about 1 hr or so away from me. I normally have to drive atleast 30mins to get to most vegetarian places.

I feel for you . Just imagine the shoe was on the other foot for a moment . I'd have to go downtown to some obscure resturaunt or market to get some steak of fish and meanwhile all these close places had nothing but veggies and soy shakes . That would be messed up . If i ever talk to my ex again i'll see if she could give me some pointers for you . She is a personal trainer as well as a vegan . Everything she ate was soy , soy and more soy .

Thought this might be of interest. Bill Pearl is an old timer when it comes to bodybuilding. He was also a vegetarian. He has a website and might discuss vegetarian meals for BBs.???

Have you used any fat burning supplements? Maybe you could try Diet Fuel(TWINLAB) ,Xenadrine(CYTODINE TECH),Thermicore(METRX),Hydroxycut(MuscleTech)
How often do you change up your diet?Do you alternate hi/lo cal. days.

My diet changes daily.. what I showed is a generalization... and yes awhile ago I tried the fat burning crap.. i'm thinkin about trying one again, but not sure...

LOSING FAT

You may have to look around & try different fat burners. Some things don't work for some people.Did the ones you tried just not do anything or did you get a bad reaction?

nah.. its a long story... It's just that i hate taking pills.. and really adding ne thing that isn't really natural to my body

Sorry I didn't say so before
,but congratulations on 50lb loss.
I know what you mean about eating pills ,it can be a pain @ times. Maybe you 'll just have to keep tweaking your workouts & diet until you get where you want to go.
Maybe since you want to gain more muscle ,then that should be what you focus mainly on since the more muscle you carry , the more fat you can burn.Muscle is active tissue and it takes energy to maintain it.
