I've read in many places that one should aim to lose between 1/2-1 lb per week. I've lost 10 lbs in 17 days ( started working out on the 1st, after years of sitting on the couch...) I mean, I'm not complaining, but could I really tax my body at this rate ?

I weight train about every other day, and do about an hour to an hour and a half of cardio most days.

dropped my calorie intake to around 1800-2000. I'm 35, 6'1" , 220 lbs... wanting to drop at least 20 more, if not 30.

anyway, thnx

I'm sure a large portion of it was water. The reason it is said that you should be losing weight slower is because if you drop weight too fast your body will start burning up muscle as well. Calorie cycling will help with this however.

When you restrict calories too much, your metabolism will slow down to compensate because it will fight you tooth and nail for those emergency fat reserves. So going for 3-4 days low on calories and maybe even carbs as more protein will help keep your appetite down, then do 1-2 refeed days of about 700 calories above maintenance with carbohydrates, then back to low calories for 3-4 days.
This will help keep your metabolism burning high. This is basically what I do.

Your body will adapt. My fiance lost 20 pounds the first month and then plateaued. She kept working out hard and started losing at a rate of 1 pound a week again.
