I find it curious that they put firearm companies in the same boat as companies that actively work against the consumer. May as well put auto corporations in there, too, since people need a car to drive drunk.

because the fear campaign that started in the 80's has been nothing more than a ploy to sell more guns as the US population has actually become less violent over the decades. just another means of provoking over-consumption by US consumers by a sector of the market that has a very powerful lobby in DC. this is so painfully obvious when you look at the stats from the DOJ and not the crap that spews from US media outlets.
